MATERIALS
The
Rimbau cradle structure is built of bent and polished Manau cane. The solid unions are
made of steel screws fixed in the interior and with external brass rings that make them
practically non-breakable. The cords that join the structure are of high resistance and
its fibres welded in hot to the interior of the canes. In the resistance tests have
arrived to uphold 100 Kg. without problems. Extraordinary.
Manao
is a variety of Rattan ( generic group that includes all the canes of great length that
grow between the trees). It arrives to seize more than sixty meters. It is of a great
hardness and elasticity. Has a solid interior texture, similar to the wood but much more
light Is composed by an infinity of channels joined between them. When hot it is easily
bent and maintains the form and appearance when cooled. Does not gnaw and if it is
properly protected against the dampness it extremely lasting. Nowadays it is being very
used as a substitute of the steel in the ecological structures for its resistance to
traction and to avoid electromagnetic variations and accumulations on our environment.
The varnish used on the Rimbau cradle is gomalaca and it is applied to hand in
successive capes. The Gomalaca is a natural product synthesized by an insect diluted in
alcohol. When the alcohol evaporates it crystallizes as amber coloured thin capes of great
hardness and stability. It is the glaze used from long ago in furniture of high-quality
banister. It needs to be dry cleaned just like it is done with ancient furniture. Its
toxicity is nil.
All the textiles in touch with the newborn have been made of natural washed cotton
, without adding colourings neither whitenings. After each wash the cotton might shrink
slightly, recovering its original shape and measure with the use, like jeans.
