A future scientistMy grandson is turning five and he regards life as an experiment waiting to happen. For instance, he received a butterfly habitat and watched the butterflies hatch out then called me to tell me about letting them go. Recently we were in the backyard trying to catch fireflies! I bought this science kit to encourage him to love science. There were more experiments and materials than I had thought. He has already done four different things and has many more to do and just loves it. I see this as a good educational toy to inspire a youngsters interest.
Lots of fun
My son received this for Xmas soon after turning 4yo. He LOVES it! There are two volcano simulations that he LOVES. He'll do them over and over. He does need help with it, so it's not something I can leave him to do on his own, but it sparks great conversations and questions. All the materials (or at least most, I can't remember them all right now) included are food stuffs--citric acid, red cabbage powder, baking soda, etc--so I feel like it's safe to use with little ones and in the kitchen while I'm cooking. I highly recommend this one. We have another one that he likes, but this one is his favorite.
Great for the budding scientist
My 6 year old was so excited for his first experiment set. He immediately did two experiments with Daddy (which was nice for Mommy to have a break).
If your kid can sit still and follow directions, this is a great activity.
So much fun and Learning.
We bought this for my 6 yr olds birthday and so far it has been great. It is advanced enough for a much older child, but also simple enough that my 3 yr old loves it too. We will definately be buying another kit from this series.
Good "science" for younger children
The good:
-Younger kids (mine is five) get to see/feel things happen.
-Everything you need is included.
-Experiments are fairly manageable and cleanup is straightforward.
The bad:
-If you want something that really explains deeper scientific concepts, go elsewhere. This is mostly just variations on basic acid/base stuff that you can do with baking soda, citric acid, and some pH indicators.
The verdict:
-Fun for younger kids and low stress for parents. Good combo for me.

Leapfrog Scribble and WriteMy grandchildren, both pre school, love the Scribble and Write. After a period of time using the product they are quickly learning the difference between upper and lower case letters and are attempting to write letters independently. Good to take on journeys to keep them amused. Light and easy to carry around.
Great learning activity
I got this for my stepson shortly after he had a surgery which required him to stay laying down most of the day (at 4 years old - ha!). He absolutely loved it. Initially, he played with it all the time - he loved drawing on the screen. However, the four different settings aren't something he can keep focused on - he usually changes it quite often until the game allows him to do something he wants. I'd recommend getting this with an etch-a-sketch or similar toy as well, as your child may want to draw things that the game doesn't allow. However, it's the ONLY effective tool I've ever found to help him learn (he stays at home). He's writing now more than workbooks and activity books have been able to get him to do. Combine this with the Leap Frog DVD's and a LeapFrog reader, and you'll hit a home run in getting your child to learn letters almost effortlessly.
Excellent toy for an early writer!
My son received this as a gift when he was about 2.5 and it was a bit advanced for him at the time, but it has definitely helped him form letters since he has been playing with it (he turns 3 this month). He knows how to turn it on, put it to the setting he wants (settings are shapes, numbers, lowercase letters, uppercase letters), and selects the letter he wants to draw. The instructions for writing the character or shape are very easy to follow and he is gradually getting better at starting the stylus at the right spot and following the line. After he's made the letter, he can turn off the lighting behind it so he can see only his writing. Then he swipes the button at the bottom to clear the screen and starts over again. As another user pointed out, it does not sense your writing at all as far as being able to tell you whether you've formed it right, but would you really want it to? Now, when I ask him to draw certain letters he seems to favor on paper (ie without the guide of the toy), he can do it. I definitely attribute this growing skill partly to this toy. It is not too loud, musical, or repetitive, and is quite compact, making it a perfect toy for the car.
Not as high tech as it looks, but amazing how quickly kids learn with it!
First off, the downside to this: The screen is nothing more than something I had as a kid that can be bought at the dollar store. It displays writing or shapes with pressure, not anything high tech like other Leap products. Not that it's a bad thing! Just sometimes hard to maintain complex drawings, like a smiley face. Also, the "eraser" is really flimsy. I cringe every time my son rips it across the screen. The pen is attached with a very short cord. I cut it loose after my son's frustration started to make the toy less fun. The pen is chunky so there's not really a chance of losing it.
Now the positives! My son was going to be in the hospital for a few days so I wanted something he could use while stationary. Of course they bandaged up his writing arm, but that's besides the point! He's 3 and a half and learned more with this toy in a matter of weeks than he did in a year in preschool! Basically, the screen at the bottom displays letters, shapes, and games for the kids to trace. It's great for visual and auditory learners because the letter is sounded out phonetically, described how to make it auditorially, and then drawn with the blinking lights.
It's really simple for kids to follow and moves at a decent pace. They can do the same letter over and over then "press the paw button" when they want to do a different shape or letter. I highly recommend it!
Excellent learning tool for preschoolers learning to write their ABC and drawing Shapes.
My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves this toy. It teaches Uppercase & lowercase letters, drawing various shapes, and some commom pictures. Its a great toy for long car rides, its not annoying like other toys, and the most important part is that my child is actually having fun and learning.

Fun for everyone! My year old grandson loves this! This is my second Leap Frog purchase and I am sold. Will be sure to buy more. Even for kids that know the alphabet already, it's so much fun to spin and hear the sounds they create for the various animals. Who knew what an inchworm sounds like! Fun and eduational, different sounds depending on what you set it on...highly recommend!
Awesome Toy!
My 6 month old son loves this toy because he can make it spin himself. When he was learning to sit up, this toy was a big help because we could sit in right in front of him and he could reach it without toppling over. He also could play with it during tummy time. There are 3 different settings and the songs are catchy, not annoying although they do tend to get stuck in your head. The high/low volume option in a nice feature too. Our baby is so proud of himself every time he makes it work. I love how easily and smooth it spins. It does tend to tip over easily, and I frequently have to sit it back up to the correct position. Some of the animal sounds are a little odd and I wish it had more lights, but overall a great toy.
Cute toy!
It's really a cute toy. Bought it for my friend's kids for their birthday and I believe they like it. The animal sounds are kind of strange, but its still cute and very educational. Would buy again if needed!
I learned a lot from this toy.
For example, whales don't actually sing whale songs. The sound a whale makes is a splash. Lions don't roar; they say, in a very perky female voice, 'rar!'. Kangaroos and rabbits sound like springs sproinging. Jellyfish sound like bubbles in water. I can't even figure out what the zebra noise is supposed to be.
I get that coming up with a sound for jellyfish might be hard, so why'd they choose jellyfish? And for horses that say 'neigh!' and lions that say 'rar!', why not use vaguely realistic sounds instead of the same vocalist who sings the little song that plays while the wheel is spinning? They managed to get a 'bzzz' sound for the bees that's enough to make me reach for bug spray, so it's not that the whole concept is foreign.
And god forbid your child gets tired of this toy and wants to move to some other entertainment. This device will make a sound after 15 seconds of sitting idle, so your child can't be lured away by quieter toys like building blocks or books.
Nieces, Nephews, & Wards
My sister left this at my house when my nephew was 6 months old. He loved to play with it & when they went home the little girl I baby-sat would play with it too, she was much younger than he was at the time & she had a lot more time to play with it. Now, both of them are 2+ years old, the thing still works & my 6 month old niece is coming for a visit... I'm certain she'll have fun with it too.
Durable toy & kids like it, I think they might be too young to get any educational benefit from it while it's fun for them to play with & then by the time they're learning more it isn't fun anymore. For $14, it's worth it.

Wrong Values for KidsThis video is good for learning the phonics sound of a letter but I don't like the examples that it is using. One segment shows that a toy is taken away and one character gets mad. Another segment shows your kids that dark place is scary.
My 3 year old and my 1 year old are never afraid of the dark and can play hide and seek with us and they can hide in a dark bedroom. After watching this video, my daughter is trying to copy the character and tells me that she is afraid when it is dark. I stopped showing this video to her right away. She can now play hide and seek with us again.

sing-along, read-along fron leap frog
My grandson watches this tape over and over. So I had to watch this tape with him. He is 2 years old.
It doen't make you feel tired to watch even though you watch over and over and over. . .
My grandson was learning the sound of letters.
Great start
After reading the reviews I decided to try this product. I'm glad I did because my son loves it! I don't have a problem with the values - I don't think the stories are meaningful enough to teach anything. You could probably use anything you don't like as a teachable moment (i.e. Was that nice to do? What could he have done instead?) I would look through them first and if you don't like any of the books I think you can exclude them without taking too much away from the program. It's generally a good idea to preview any kids material first just in case!
I think these books are equivalent to the Bob beginning reading books. They use simple words kids can sound out and a few common site words. The videos are short and entertaining enough. My son has asked to watch them every day and has been able to read most of the first book. I highly recommend it!
Just Got it
We just got our LeapFrog Sing-Along Read-Along. My children seem to like it. I really have nothing bad to say I'll write back after a few months see if they actually learn anything with it.
My kids love it!
I am such a fan of Leap Frog in general, and this set did not disappoint. It comes with 12 short "books" that match 12 skits on the included DVD. We use them separately - the songs go far too quickly on the DVD to try to read along for my 1- and 3-year old, but we read the book separately and the kids remember enough from the movie to "read" several of the pages to me. We've had the set about two weeks now, and my son, who just turned 3, is already sounding out all kinds of words in his other books.
I love how words are introduced in this series. They start with one simple 3-letter word, and then the characters run along the screen trading out letters to make different sounds. For example, they start with sun, turn that into sub, change sub to tub, change tub to tug, etc. It's definitely helped my son understand how words come together, and the different sounds each letter makes.
Some of the skits are odd, but my kids don't seem to mind. For example, the word sub is used in several of the skits, since it's an easy 3-letter word. In one skit one of the characters sleeps a lot, and ends up taking a nap with a sub (submarine sandwich). He then sleeps in the mud and on a bump, with a pup and a bug. Little weird, but again, the kids are very entertained by the whole DVD.
Overall, it's a great buy, especially if you can find it on sale for under [...].

My 3 year old loves it!Very cute, good picture, light weight and durable. The sound is good too. The kids like it so I like it.
Leap Frog Learning device
This is a very good toy for learning, especially for energetic 4 year olds. I bought this for my grandson and he stays with playing through each of the modes.
Great Toy!
I purchased this toy for my then 3year-old son (after a moderate amount of comparison and deliberation with similar toys) with the simple goal to help him learn the sounds of the letters better. We've been disappointed with toys that pretend to be adult "toys" but that just don't seem to fool him or make him want to play with them for more then a day or two. So I was skeptical and had low expectations of how well it would entertain him. And to be honest, he barely touched it for the first month he owned it (it was a Christmas present though so he was busy playing with new trains, vehicles, building blocks, and such). Then one day, (because of it's size: it fit in my purse) it went on a doctor's visit with us. And that was it.
I took the time to show him what buttons did what and how to bring up different functions (he remembered a couple) and he has loved the toy ever since. He likes to keep it in the car now and he plays with it almost every day when we're all driving home from work/daycare (which can be a pretty cranky time for him so yay!). He'll also play with it in the morning when he wakes up on the weekends if we put it by the bed after he falls asleep and give us a little extra time before we have to get up.
Educationally, I like this toy as much as he likes it for being fun. He is delayed with his language so I like that it helps him with his letter sounds while playing. We sometimes expand on it and make up our own silly combinations... well, we do but he laughs at them and repeats them, which is the important part. As he gets older, he'll be able to contribute too and we'll be able to really make a game of it. I like that as he gets older and understands more, there will be new functions he'll be able to use on this toy (like the game mode) so it will continue to help him learn and be fun for him for a long time. As a parent, I love toys that have a long play life!
So far this toy has been pretty durable. It has been dropped on concrete and had a 35 lb child stand on it several times without any damage. In general I have been happy with the quality of Leapfrog products and this one is no exception. It is a great toy, both for children and parents.
Entertains And Travels Well
I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old now 3, we travel alot and this keeps him still while he gets a haircut as well. Also, going through security at the airport was easy and it is small enough to put into his carryon backpack and loud enough for him to hear and not others who is sitting close on an airplane. There are animated pictures when you press the alphabets in upper case and lower case, 2 games and one button that sings a little song to teach you about the weekdays, good for an hour and if you play with child a few hours without getting bored, but once my 3 year old has mastered this game, he only plays with it from time to time.
A million percent recommend!!!
Im going to thank this toy for teaching my son his ABC's and in a week! He is very hyper activity and hates group activities or activities where hes expected to sit and focus or participate. So its been a struggle teaching him much. I got him this game on a whim and it was a huge hit. He loved the games, when he thought Scout was texting him, all the cute little animated graphics. I really didnt think he would like it because its not big and it doesnt have colorful animations, but he has to have this toy with him for about 90% of the day and its the only toy I dont mind him carrying everywhere with him. He can actually point out every letter of the alphabet now and not just in the game, in everyday situations. If we go out to eat he loves to read the letters on the menu now! Im definitely looking into the other leapfrog toys as well now.

You appetite to buy them tasteful, eco-friendly wooden jigaws. They want Bratz. But it’s not impossible to find toys that will please children and their parents
EDUCATIONAL TOYS are the integral lentil bake on the menu. We want our children to love them instead of the branded plastic junk that lights up their eyes. Today’s children may sob into psychiatrists’ couches in decades to move: “They only bought me the wooden stuff. Damn my middle-class upbringing, my unbleached washable nappies and my finished Mini-Boden wardrobe. All I wanted was a fistful of chicken nuggets and a Ben 10 Omnitrix.”
But at this time of the year Santa can side with the grown-ups and communicate something that is not plastered with TV references, is not a princess and doesn’t come with packaging shots designed to promote repetitive longing. The chilly winds of recession may be blowing round the North Pole but educational toys need not be boring, dignitary or expensive.

As parents often are looking for toys that are young people who get pleasure, but also strengthen the values and teachings cultured favorite TV programs. When it comes to television programs for young people, there is no better example than the repect and sesame constant desire that provided a sharp line of information gathering for its ingenious audiance. And first, as Sesame Boulevard has become forty years, many parents can not deny and remember their favorite characters. There are many unique Sesame someone joining a toy that children T flattery.
Let's look at some of the things you should consider when buying a toy for young knight characteristics.
First, the basis for believing that the toy is to compensate for the age of your child. Sometimes, the articles of age can be a little misleading. Look for reviews and accolades from various websites and A-all talk with other parents. Talk to other parents would be more qualified support you can get.
Then try to find a toy that offers a scholarship component. A toy Inspirit can complete both your child and have fun learning simutaneously. It is unfortunate that some toys of culture have been overlooked because of the reputation of educational toys is very shrill and deafening. But a scholarship of a select few toys can be a useful investment, since they can keep their children occupied and information without the Miss deafening noise. Prevalent Elmo toys have priority over the benefits of wisdom about being smaller than the rest.
Finally, get involved. It is respected to interact and show their young how to minimize the toy. You can actually increase closer to their youth as they look to you to stand up for.Seeing and what to do with the toy, the problem will learn faster and have more fun learning. This is an incident that already exists with educational toys, since even a bit of interaction will have to gain independence on how to play decently with toys and scholarship in the same period of time.
Having fun with the precision that toys can not only be a common sense scholarship for your child, but also for the mother. Look for marks or characters worthy of that knowledge in the sieve Purvey as Caillou toys. Watch your baby and note remodeling Skylarking wht a tilt to them and how they like to learn.
