my baby loves fishing now!
my baby's about 20 months old and he's now officially a pro fisher! He knows where everything goes. He can just fish them and put them back in less than 5 mins.
He loves it!
It is my 2.5 year olds favortie toy at the moment. He loves to catch the sea animal that i call out to him.. i'm happy i bought this.
Love it!
My 15 month old daughter successfully catches all the sea creatures and then shouts, "More, More!" She loves it! Great for hand eye coordination and concentration!
A lot of fun for a great price !
Melissa & Doug Deluxe 10-Piece Magnetic Fishing Game

I have been buying a lot of toys for under $10 for my 3-year-old granddaughter and one-year-old grandson to play with at my house. I gave this game to my granddaughter, and she hasn't put it away yet. She loves "catching the fish". It is a great toy because she thinks it's fun; yet at the same time she is learning fine motor skills because you have to aim the pole at the fish and steady the line to hit the magnet to catch it. She can also tell you what each one is. It's a great fun and learning toy! All of us adults have been playing with it too!
let's go fishing!
I bought this puzzle for my 20-month old son after his occupational therapist recommended it. However, my only complaint is that the pictures are NOT under the puzzle pieces, which makes it a lot harder (though I think the recommended age for this puzzle is age 2, or maybe even 3). Anyway, I wish it had the pictures under the puzzle pieces. Our occupational therapist's puzzle, which is an older version, has the pictures. Otherwise, this is a fun, colorful, sturdy (as all Melissa & Doug products are) puzzle that should last awhile and helps improve fine motor skills! :-)

puzzle
I got this puzzle thinking my 2.5 years boy will like it ... strangely enough he didn't ... nobody plays with it ....
Good but could be better
Bought this puzzle for my son who is over 2 1/2. He may still be a little young for it because he gets bored or it may just not be as fun to him as some of his other puzzles. Im willing to give it a little more time to see if his interest changes in the next year. The durability is good but I think the pieces could be a little thicker for kids little fingers to pick up more easily. Overall good product.
M&D Wooden Bear Puzzle good for my two year old son
My two year old son and almost four year old daughter have enjoyed this. They really enjoy the different outfits and facial expressions.
A Must Buy
Bought this for our daughte who's 2.5 years. It's engaging, sparks her creativity, interesting and good quality.
This is more wrth it than the individual version. Just break in the puzzle by showing 1 character and their puzzle pieces at the time. This will prevent them to get overwhelmed in the beginning.
Great product.
Great for toddlers!
My 3 year-old LOVES this puzzle and I enjoy playing with her. This is a terrific product!

Great game for toddlers
My great grandsons love to play with this. It teaches them coordination and is very well made. Fast shipping too.
Fun Magnetic Game
This toy can be used as a puzzle or as a fun magnetic game. You can put the puzzle together and then catch the bugs with the magnet. The magnets are strong so the pieces don't fall off when you catch them. This is a very well made toy.
love this puzzle!
This is my son's favorite puzzle and he has been playing with this since he was 18 months old. He is now 2. He is a huge fan of bugs and loves to manipulate the puzzle pieces onto the board and will carry his favorite bugs with him. All of the pieces are very durable, including the net. The magnetic puzzle game is definitely more entertaining for my toddler than the wooden chunky puzzles by M&D.
entertaining
My almost 3 year old first played with this briefly at a nature center. He is thoroughly entertained by it. Matches all the pieces appropriately and loves the magnetic component of it. All of the magnets appear to be very secure, with the exception of the "net" magnet. I just cant tell what holds that in and my infant daughter loves that piece, unfortunately. Great buy.
Great Puzzle
My 21 month-old daughter really likes this toy. Within two days she had learned the names of each of the insects and memorized which ones go in which spaces. She enjoys doing puzzles and this one provides a nice twist by making it into a game where you have to "catch" the bugs.

Not what I expected
My first disappointment was the set up of the keyboard. With our times of technology and the daily use of computers for everything I was not exceptionally happy with the non-qwerty set up of the keyboard. I do understand the why someone would think the set-up of the keyboard and placement of the letters is a good idea for the purpose of learning the letters in order, however, this also means when they go to use a real keyboard they will need to relearn the placement of letters as this is not a qwerty-style keyboard. My son is only 2 but we've been teaching him letters on his own keyboard since he was 18 months old. Due to this it will only lead to confusion. This was a big reason I sent it back.

The second disappointment was the size of the screen. Like I said, I sent this back and found other toys that taught the same concepts, without the task of re-teaching my son a different way once he is older.
Instructive and fun
My kids loves the laptop, however, since he is only 18 months, he cannot understand its use as desiged and uses it in may other ways, so I cannot review the durability of this laptop just yet. I will give him back the laptop in 6 more months, maybe he will play with it in a more calm manner and I will leave a feedback on the durability as well :)
Good Value
I got this for my son's 3rd birthday. He has a 4 year old brother and 7 year old sister. Maybe because it's new, but they all want to play with it. It holds their attention for 15-30 minutes at a time. The kids love to dance to the music tunes in the car or at home. The handle makes it easy for little hands to grip, so it travels everywhere with us. My daughter says she likes it better than the Thomas the Train laptop my other son got for his birthday because it tells you the right answer. It's very durable and easy to use. I don't find the volume level to be too high like other reviewers. All in all, it's a great value with lots of features.
Not as good as expected
When I ordered this laptop, I had very high expectations. However, they did not materialize, because the laptop turned out to have a VERY SMALL SCREEN, where you can barely see. The quality of the picture is extremely poor and the mouse is not a very comfortable one for my son.
Hands down, 4 yr olds FAVORITE toy YAAAH!!
Purchased the Vtech laptop for Christmas 09 for my 4 yr old daughter..Yaaah! Within a couple of days she had figured out how to work everything and has played constantly with it.... Yaaah! The games are challenging for her and she enjoys trying to figure out the problems....Yaaah!

Pro's:

Easy to use, challenging, fun, sounds out letters/words.

Con's:

Very small screen, poor graphics, and while it has a positive confirmation every time she gets an answer correct, it blurts out....YAAAH!!! This could potentially trigger incessant neurotic to psychotic behavior in parents. Yaaah!!!

Great Toy!!
My son loves these!!He will build endless creations with them. They are very sturdy and they are educational as well. I would highly recommend these to all.
Disappointed
My son was so excited about this toy. He's crazy about robots. Unfortunately, the paint started chipping from day one. The next day I noticed it was not just the paint, but wood corners were chipping off everywhere. Cheaply made - especially for a toy that is intended to be knocked down! It's obviously a different toy than the one reviewers talked about years ago in these reviews. I wish they would go back to the quality product they used to have, because I would never recommend these to anyone with the way they are now.
Keep Away from Mouthing Children!
These look beautiful right out of the box - vivid colors, nice detailing. However, after being knocked to the wood floor several times in 10 minutes, the paint is already chipping off! Because these are not a baby toy and are made in China, I will not let my older son play with these around his baby sister for fear of lead paint chips. I thought I was going to be able to add them to the regular toy cache but these will have to be "special-baby-sister-naptime" toys. Definitely a family toy! We might buy another set so we can really get some big creations going!
Fabulous retro toy!
I must say these robots are great! My 94 year old grandmother requested some to give as a gift. After receiving them, she herself opened them up because she " had to give them a try!" She then requested two more sets. She enjoys playing with them and sharing them with her great-great grandchildren. The bold colors are enticing. They are sturdy, and reminiscent of toys from years ago! I am now considering buying some more for my preschool classroom. Bravo!
Classic wood toy, but check out the clowns
With all the video games and branded characters nowadays, classic building toys seem like a throwback to a simpler (better?) time. These Wood Stacking Robots are fun to play with but also teach useful skills like balance and spatial understanding.

Comes with nine colorful robots. The box includes seven designs to build. I wish the manufacturer's Web site provided even more.

I have noticed paint chipping from the edges, although that does not seem to bother the kids. Still, with lead toxicity too often a problem in toys from China, this could be a concern. And unlike the Bill Ding Balancing Clowns*, these Stacking Robots from Schylling are *not* tested again for lead here in the USA.

I think I would spend a few dollars more for peace of mind.

*Further research indicates these are a descendant of the Bill Ding Balancing Clowns:

Free Enterprise: Recalls hurt more than just offending company

With the Thanksgiving shopping mellow behind us and Christmas knocking on the door, many consumers will consider not only quality and prices, but also safety while browsing through real and effective aisles.

That is especially true for toys and related children's products, given the 2007 lead paint fright.

As a reaction to the significant increase of recalls in that year, additional safeguards have been implemented. After toy recalls jumped from 38 in 2006 to 82 in 2007 (and children's yield recalls from 56 to 130), Congress passed the 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpsia.pdf ).

Division 106 of that legislation imposes "mandatory toy safety standards." This was just one of a host of new regulations related to "Children's Result Safety," including a specific "lead paint rule" and "mandatory third party testing."

From an economic vantage point, it is - at first glance - puzzling that profit-seeking producers of children's products may be sloppy with their quality controls. To one side from the corrective pressure imposed by the threat of costly litigation, manufacturers are aware that recalls have the potential to in a wink impose huge costs on a company.

Toy recall not just fun and games, says U of T researcher ...

The well-publicized toy recalls 2007 had potentially toxic toys off shelves and orlah-di-da-di-dah companies that made them. However, a new show also that even companies that are not subject to withdrawals has scars on the impact of consumers is sometimes worse than criminals. Meanwhile, companies do not offend some categories of goods unnatural.

In 2007, the U.S. Work Cover Consumer Commission recalled 276 toys and other children's products - more than 80 percent of wax over the year before mentioned.Nearly all recalled toys made in China and coating intricate grumbled many raised levels of the prima ballerina.

Reading reviewed the effects that were recalled in sales of infant and preschool toys in the taste of successive Christmas. The authors found that Christmas sales for the equivalent products from manufacturers cited in the recalls were down 30 percent compared to other manufacturers sell products. But sales of these toys manufacturers were sufficiently related to those mentioned in the removals do not appear to be false. In other words, consumers "do not imprison" offending the manufacturer more superficial.

"This may be because, in this trade, consumer non-recognition of manufacturers and brands and trademarks penalty. For warning, consumers can recognize brands like Barbie and Hot Wheels, without recognizing that both are, in the episode, made by Mattel, "said Mara Lederman, Rotman professor operation mode and watch one of the three co-authors

Perhaps most interesting, the bookworm believes that companies had no record was also beaten - their status Christmas 2007, sales fell 25 percent compared to 2005. This suggests that these recalls affected consumer expectations of the toy in public auspices.

"In this affair, one stiff resentment from other players seem fine," said Lederman. "This may be accidental because the tangled recalls a common form (manufacturing in China) or because the brands and trademarks are commonly shared by many manufacturers and toys. A fund of this is that companies may be interested in the strict application of electronic commerce in every possible standards....
