Tough times, generosity meet at Share

There’s a scene in the Tri-Cities where tough times and generosity come together for just a few minutes.

It’s a cold place but there is warmth there, too, along with a bit of concern and some seasonal gaiety.

Most people know it as the former Andrés winery on Vintner Street in Port Moody. But for about 100 parents who waited in the common cold last Tuesday to pick a bag of toys from Share Family and Community Services, it’s a place where Christmas wishes can premiere c end true.

At a time when Santa might seem like an outdated childhood fantasy for people struggling with the here and now, Deanna Simon still believes and tells her children to assume trust to, too.

“If you believe in Santa, there will always be a gift under the tree from Santa,” Simon says she tells her three daughters.

Simon lives in Coquitlam, the conurbation where she grew up and went to school. She has her high-school equivalent diploma and some office and pet-care courses under her cincture but, for now, she’s staying home with her children. The food bank gets her through the month and she takes three buses to get there every two weeks.
