*OVERPRICED BUT VERY CUTE*
i bought this for my 3yr old daughter for christmas,so i have not givin it to her yet,but had some thoughts id like to share anyway.the pieces ARE small as everyone is saying,but i thought about super gluing them to the table,that way they dont get lost,there always at the table where she can pretend their having drinks,and my 1yr old wont put them in her mouth.might be a little much but it works for me.2nd,it is EXPENSIVE also,but i am a bargain shopper so i got it at kohls when they had it on sale for $19.95 and used a $10.00 kohls cash from a previous perchase,so i paid a whole $10.00 for it! totally worth that to me.i know my daughter will love it she is already asking for it,she just doesnt know shes getting it for christmas.i think if u can find a good deal on it and work around the small peices,its worth it!

Looks Great in the Box.....But, ummm...
First I would like to say that my DD loves Strawberry Shortcake (SS) and I spent a lot of time choosing which sets to purchase for her birthday.

My DD loved the way the box looked in the store (the presentation in the box is very "attention grabbing") however, after I bought it for her birthday and opened it I was immediately disappointed.

Waaaay to expensive for what it is. Half the pieces were gone before we even finished the party and it is pretty much a "shell of a house". It doesn't even close to hold those tiny pieces...so...no chance of keeping them anyway.

There is no handle so my DD could not transport it around the house as she likes so I have to move it for her....It's not heavy, just bulky for my DD.

It should have included at least one of SS "friends" so my DD could actually pretend she was having a tea party as the set-up seems to suggest.

Also, I tried to find a few "friends" and discovered that you have to buy other play-sets to get even one that is the same type.

The SS you get in the package has plastic hair and is a different size than the individually sold characters you can find next to the play-set at the store.

When you buy sets that have the friends, they also contain SS so I end up with 3-4 SS's and 1 of each friend.

More money and frustrating...

Meanwhile....My DD has started to use her SS dolls to play in her regular dollhouse she received last Christmas. More frustration....maybe I should have just bought the dolls...oh, wait you can't.

All in all, I found this particular set to be a complete waste of money...and the entire line to be uncoordinated. The house should have been more substantial and the characters should be able to be bought individually or as a "friend" set.

IT SMELLS STRONG. BEWARE KIDS WITH ALLERGIES AND SENSITIVE KIDS.
So .. who's brilliant idea was to put a smell into all Strawberry Shortcake toys,
I will never know but I know that it keeps successfully tons of customers like myself from
leting them anywhere near my child.

All toys in the Strawb. Sh. series are hevily perfumed with artificial strawberry smell
that as all artificial smells .. is owerpowering, irriating and of course causes
respiratory reaction or alikes in people with allergies or sensitivities.

I wish someone took a closer look into the problem at the manufacturer's and would
at least give option of having the toy smell or not.. like the perfume could be
included for self-damaging the toy by spraying on it or something of that nature...
because as it is now you don't have this option.

No matter how much my daughter would love to have her beloved character toy, she
just can't stand the smell as she gets immediate reaction and she just can't breath
we had one attempt after buying it without knowing what we were going into
and then once she accountered the toy at her friend and forgot all about smell
and just started playing with it... you can guess the rest.

My problem is that nobody really tests the chemicals that go into production of
those artifical smells in kids toys and they certainly can be in the same group
as air refreshners that tend to so well-known to cause all kinds of problems in kids
phtalates.. yeah.. live and learn..

anyhow I googled the arificial refreshners and I got more info that you might
want to look before you buy any toy with artificial perfume be it strawberry or whatever..
just google this "Beware of Toxic Air Fresheners" and you should get
tons of info on what they can do to a child.

I am really upset that the manufacturer is not concern about the safety of the little ones
and at least does not put bright and big warning that the item does contain
artificial air refreshner scent that may be potentially allergy-causing or
reaction causing in senstive individuals.

A while ago I had the same problem with baby dolls that come scented
and of course there is NO info on the package that they are scented.
It simply never ends.. why all this stuff needs to be added to kid's toys?
who needs that?

A sure hit for berry sweet fans
I ordered this as a present for my niece's 3rd birthday this year. She loves the berry sweet smelling characters and is very "girly" in general. She loved it! A success among a horde of the exciting packages she opened. If your child likes Strawberry Shortcake, this is a pretty sure hit.

As you can read in other reviews, this toy is a nice package and feels well made, but it comes with a large number of very tiny parts, including miniscule toy food. If your child has any tendency to put something in the mouth, or if you have babies in the household, I really would not advise this purchase for you. Also, I would definitely have a container or plastic baggie to put the tiny food in when play is finished. There is no carrying case and this isn't the easiest travel toy. However, it is quite cleverly designed, and will certainly spark your child's imagination as they run the berry cafe with little Shortcake at the helm. Hours of fun in one set. I certainly wouldn't mind playing with it and my niece for an afternoon or two.

Surprisingly, my nephew who is 5 and only plays with cars and trains, thought this was a pretty cool toy as well. He was sheepishly enjoying playing with the set and my niece on her birthday (he pretended to be helping her unpack it). Household harmony. The bird at the top that Shortcake rides on is fun to play with for a more action oriented child (e.g., if you have a boy and girl playing together). They love watching her fly around (and fall off).

My sincere thanks to everyone who writes reviews on Amazon! I have consulted the user reviews for most of my many toy purchases for my niece and nephew, and you have never led me astray.

More of a Collector's Item than a toy
As the title of this review states, this toy is more of a collector's item since the child gets easily bored with the tiny pieces and construction of the cafe. Sure when the child opens her presents, she is surprised but the joy is temporary since the furniture pieces and food items are easily lost and not entertaining. For the money invested into this toy, it is not worth it.

Cute but Makeup is a joke.
This doll is cute and smells really good but the makes-up is anything but good. It does not work at all. My daughter was really disappointed. She still plays with the doll's hair but I got her specifically for the make-up fun.

lots of extra bits
The doll overall was well recieved and adored by me three year old niece. The sponge to use for making the starwberry disappear/reappear has no effect. The strawberry stayed oh her face regardless of hot water or an ice cube. no effect. The barrettes were very difficult even for myself to open. Also the hair is stiched into the box with plastic. Other than those flaws the doll was very durable, and worth the price along with the stickers even though the face mark didnt really change.

Strawberry is the best!!
My youngest loves all things Strawberry. She asked for this for her birthday which was after New Year's, but I got it early, actually even before Christmas. It helped her wait for Christmas, if you know what I mean. I had packages in my closet (out of reach), but they knew that they were gifts and could not wait. So, I had a gift certificate for Amazon and went shopping. This was our choice and I don't regret it. She is a medium-sized doll, good for a little girl's arms, smells sweet like all Strawberry dolls, and the accessories, although small, are nice and fun for the doll and the owner. I would make sure if your child is very young or still puts things in her mouth, to not purchase this or to keep the accessories out of reach until they can be responsible. My daughters love to put the accessories on themselves, so they do double-duty.

Wow! Vivid colors.
My 3 year old likes the movie and will usually watch it all. I still can't believe how vivid the colors are. The storyline is interesting but probably more appropriate for 5-7 year olds. Personally, I like the younger Strawberry like I had as a girl. But, I guess, Strawberry and I needed to grow up a little....

Strawberry Shortcake
My 2 year old daughter loves strawberry shortcake. This is the 23rd strawberry shortcake movie I have purchased for her. I buy each new one as they come out. All of the movies have singing in them and I find my daughter trying to sing along with strawberry and her friends. I like her new look too, it's really cute. I grew up with the original strawberry shortcake in the 80's, they have made great improvements. Some kind of trouble always finds strawberry but she and her friends always find a way to fix it. It's cute to watch.

a bit sweet, but good light reading
My three-year-old fights sleep, but we have found that we can read her to sleep with the various Strawberry books. They are cute enough to maintain her attention, but not so exciting as to wake her back up. The names of characters and places can be a bit much for adults to take, but I will probably buy more books in the series since they teach good lessons about friendship & sharing (and they do help settle our little night owl!)

Cute and Fun!
My two and 1/2 year old received this for Christmas. She always wants to play with her big sister's Polly Pockets and Barbies and such, and so I thought this would be a good alternative and something new for her. I'm not sure who likes it more, my little one or her big sister who's seven! They are enjoying it and I would say it's comparable in detail and durability to Polly Pockets. I'm pleased with this purchase.

Not so great
"Santa" purchased for my 4 year old. It comes with a car, a doll, a hat, a cardboard suitcase and map. The hat does not fit the doll. (like not even close). put the suitcase, map and hat (that doesn't fit her head) in the car, and it is overloaded. it has seatbelts, but they are a huge struggle to fit over the doll. I get this is supposed to be simple toy, but it makes no sense the "accessories" don't work with it. try something else.

Fun but Cheaply Made
My daughter has fun with this toy. It's good for pretend play. The doll and car both smell nice.

But...

The doll is very small and the quality reminds me of something you'd get inside a McDonald's Happy Meal (or even worse as there are some Happy Meal toys that are made much better than this figurine). The size doesn't bother me because Strawberry has to fit in the very cheaply made, and also very small, car. The description says that the "Vehicle comes with Strawberry Shortcake figure, dress, hat, map and suitcase accessories". Well yes it does, but the map and suitcase accessories are all made of cardboard, and are really just trash, which we promptly discarded. The plastic hat doesn't fit well, and I had to force fit it on Strawberry's head. We got a great deal on it, but if I would have paid full price, I would have definitely returned it.

I wish the Strawberry Shortcake line made today were more like the Stawberry Shortcake line that I remember as a little girl.

More durable than I expected
When I received the new 2009 Hasbro SSC pieces, I was surprised at how durable they seem to be. The plastic is relatively heavy and the toys themselves are pretty substantial. I have high hopes that they should hold up well with play.
