Customer Reviews

My toddler loves this book.
I bought this for my almost 3-year old son. It's the first book that has held his interest until the end. He even "reads" with me. I bought 4 of the Big Dog and Little Dog books. His favorite is "Big Dog and Little Dog Making a Mistake."
13 mo.old loves it
My 13 month old granddaughterloves this book. She does have a big dog. The minute I walk through the door she goes to her books and picks this one for me to read to her.
Loved It
I love Dav Pilkey's sense of humor,he tends to write for 3rd graders on up; and so I was excited when I saw this one for young children.
Our family loves this book
After checking this book out from the library multiple times and maxing out the allowable renewals each time, with no sign of our ten-month-old son getting tired of it, we knew we had to buy this book. The bright, bold graphics really grab his attention--he will crawl over to pull the book off the shelf on his own, and loves to play with it even when we aren't reading it to him.

It helps that we have a "big dog" and two "little dogs" in the family, so the story means something to him. For the adults, it's a clever and funny little story that will ring true to any dog owner. It continues to amuse us even after dozens and dozens of repeated reads.
Big dog and little dog are the BEST!
My son loves these books, and I must say this is one of my personal favorites. If you have a toddler you must get this book. You cant help but smile each time you read it and your child with love it.

Good interaction book
This is a great book for can you find the animal? My daughter loves this book.
Great Book!
My daughter has loved this book since the first time we opened it. The pictures are big and bright and grouping the animals (babies, farm, pets etc.) helps her to understand better. She smiles and points at each page. The price is very reasonable for what you get. Highly recommended.
Childs favorite
This is our second book. The first one broke all apart and my daughter was playing with individual pages. Hopefully this one lasts longer! It's her favorite though, great photos and colors!
perfect for my animal lover!
My two-year-old has an animal obsession, so he absolutely loves this book! I love that it is categorized and that the pictures are bright and colorful. It includes the common animals, but also some unfamiliar, unique animals as well, such as the egret and kookaburra!
Grandaughter's delight
My grandaughter is 7 months old and LOVED this book. She would kick her little feet with delight as we turned to each new page.
It is colorful and wonderful for teaching animal recognition, eye hand coordination as you turn the pages and point to animals, and would be a perfect venue to start teaching animal sounds .
This book is worth every cent.

The busy book for toddlers
I work at a daycare and work with young toddlers. I have had many great ideas come from this book. I take the ideas in the book and then see what the children do with them. I usually will go with the flow of what the children want to do so sometimes it doesn't turn out like the book says but it is still great to see what the children do with the ideas. I recommend this book to any Young Toddler teacher. It helps out alot.
Didn't find as useful as I hoped
I didn't find this as useful as I hoped when I ordered it. If you are a stay at home parent I could definitely see the uses for this. My daughter is in daycare during the week and I found that many of the activities are repeats of what they're already doing there. The other drawback is that a lot of the activities require materials that I don't have lying around the house. None of the materials are expensive, but for my situation I didn't think it was worth investing too much money in.
this author must have been desperate to meet her deadline
This book really sucks. All of the other 1-star reviewers are right: this woman has no imagination. It doesn't take a genius--or a person with a borderline retarded IQ, for that matter--to come up with the majority of these "ideas." If you have any memory of once being a child yourself then you can come up with these activities on your own. My kid already knows how to do the obvious stuff, without my assistance, such as playing with empty boxes, using a paper towel roll as a trumpet, etc. She and I were looking for some new ideas...
Great Ideas for activities to do WITH your toddler
I got this book thinking it was full of ideas that would keep my super active 23 month old daughter busy for a while. The ideas in this book are great activities that you can do WITH your child, not so much things that will keep them busy. I give it 4 stars because I felt like the book purported to be something it wasn't. With that said, I absolutely LOVE it anyway because:
1. I do want to spend time with my daughter, but I find that I can't come up with ideas for stimulating activities on my own. I spend about an hour more playing with her than I used to (yes, at the expense of a few household chores, but it seems worth it when you are seeing them learn new things).
2. With this book I am discovering that she is ready and willing to learn lots of things I hadn't supposed she would be able to (somersaults, colors, and more) at this age.
3. I can customize many of these activities to her special interests which makes her enjoy them more.

Somethings that have been disappointing:
1. The book says you do these activities with items found around the house, but I find that I need to buy lots of random things in order to have necessary supplies. That said, there are some things you can do without buying anything at all.
2. My daughter looses interest in the activities within a few minutes in most cases- although she has been excited about a few for several hours.
Great book
It got me through winter with a two-year old and a newborn while living in a five-floor walk-up in Brooklyn NY. It's a good book.

My grandson loves it
I bought this book for my grandson who is now 10 months old. He loves looking at the pictures and watching his Nana make a fool of herself while she sings the song. I like the fact that the music notes are included on the back of the book. I had forgotten the melody so that really helped.
Head and shoulders above the rest
My daughter loves the illustrations, and this is one of the books that gets her up and dancing. Many books are great to listen to, but this makes her get up and do a little dance.
Beware, iPad users!
iPad users beware. This is in black and white!! No color inside.Really not for the iPad.
A delightful toddler song captured with endearing illustrations!
All toddlers hear this song---from parents, librarians, preschool teachers---and here it is in a charming book with very cute illustrations. A winning combination!
Cute book for little kids just learning the song
This book is a very cute addition to the toddler literature. My little guys love singing the song and it is great for them to see the motions on the pages as well. It is not quite as good as some of the others in the series, but still a good purchase for the price. Especially for those kids who cannot get enough books!

Wonderful Book!
We love this book! Right after we took it out of the box, we read it and LOOOOOVED it! My 6 1/2 month old son smiled and giggled at each page, eager to see what was next. I can't wait to see what else this author has!
Good
Nice book, the last page as some people mentioned generate a good reaction in my son.... try it.
one of the all time favorites
My son has loved this book for well over a year. He is 22 months and still loves it. I have to buy another copy since he spent his time teething with this book. I don't get too tired of reading it either. You will love it!
Great for Young Babies
I admittedly found this book inane when we first bought it for my then one-year-old. She enjoyed looking at it a few times, and then we put it aside. I started reading it to my second child when she was 2 months old, and 9 months later, this is still the only book she will sit still for! She will bring the book to me and even mimics the sounds. I would not recommend this for children already over one, but Peek A Who? is a great introduction to books for young babies.
One of her favorites!
My daughter loved this book right away and it's still one of her favorites! (She's 13 months now - was about 7 months when we bought it.) It's a great concept - partially hidden pictures where you have to turn the page to see what's there - very few words - rhymes on every page. And the fact that there's a mirror at the back totally seals the deal - what could be better to a baby? :-)

Moms' club nurtures the writer in mothers

These were members of the Book Mamas, a monthly writing salon in Marin. Last month's event was "The Mama Monologues," at which eight Writing Mamas interpret short, humorous autobiographical pieces, followed by an hourlong talk by guest speaker Anne Lamott.

The Criticism Mamas meet every second Sunday evening of the month at Book Passage in Corte Madera. For a $120 annual fee, they get from as far north as Sonoma, as far south as San Jose and as far east as Oakland to bond, write, read and critique one another's trade. And there are now chapters in Austin, Texas, Nashville and Seattle. "We like to multiply," it says on their Web site, WritingMamas.com.

"We're about penetrating writing, clarity and getting published," says Dawn Yun, San Rafael journalist, author and mother of an 8-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son. She started the league in 2004 and leads each meeting, often booking agents or publishers to give real-world advice.

"This year, five or six of our writers are having books published, and many have had pieces published in newspapers, magazines," she says.

Hello and congratulations on making another December. We realize that you learned and calendar months and not others, but who depend on us: this is the month in which all children of mirage. We have a few new policies and procedures in the region who yearn for all energy is unyielding commissioning business.

Firstly: We have noticed an increase in parents answer questions without theory about them first. To counteract this alarming trend, we are at this moment the passage of an across the board based control design. This does not imply the lack of importance that consultation is, or if you take into account the rejoinder (after all, there are 90% of the questions not essential because the child responsible is already known?) - Check sources of ticks!

For that matter, all conversations must be as follows:

Child: "Daddy, What is this ornament?"

Daddy: "That's a snowman on a bicycle."

Child: "Mom, what's that embellish?"

Mother: "It's a snow man on a bicycle.

Child: "Daddy, what color is this fire?"

Daddy: "You become aware of what color it is - is red."

Child: "Mom, what color is this light?"

Mother: (pink spring operating dying enough not preferential)

Toddler (louder): "Mom, what color is this discovered?"

Mother: (groan) "Network".

We have found these unnecessary duplicate questions and detailed control of source may have side effects detrimental to the strength of the rationality of parents with problems, but we judge that the risks are negative enough to worry about this detail....
