I just forgotAnother Little Critter Book, and just as enjoyable as the other ones.
Little Readers will be able to relate to Little Critter, who tries so very hard to do it all right, but seems to forget something all the time. The story is funny and entertaining. Kids will get the message that it is okay to sometimes forget something; it can happen to anyone.
A great bedtime story or anytime story for small children.
Fun read.
I Like It, But I Do Have One Little Complaint
I decided to read this book to my girls because they tend to be forgetful. It's a cute story showing a kid (actually a little critter) who remembers to do some things, but forgets to do other things. I like how the story shows a young child doing chores around the house. Sometimes my girls don't want to help out the family, and this book shows that there are children who have jobs just like them. I also like how the mother expresses a variety of emotions when reminding her child what he needs to do. At times it is clear that she is disappointed, but at other times she is very gracious and encouraging to her child. The story has a nice ending when the boy expresses that he never forgets to have his mom read him a bedtime story and give her a goodnight kiss. My only complaint is that the father has an almost nonexistent role in the family. The only time he is introduced in the story is when he comes home from work; he is sitting down waiting for the newspaper. Way to interact with the family dad! Perhaps the other Little Critter books do a better job showing dad in a more positive light.
Good for beginner readers
My grandson is in kindergarden and is just learning to read and he loves this book.It seems pretty easy to read.
Cute!
My son loves the little critter books. This one is very cute and I'm sure most little ones can relate to it.
all kids should have a mercer mayer book!
Not much to say about it, my daughter and I love Mercer Mayer books (ok, so my daughter will let me read about anything to her... I'm the one that is addicted to this particular series!)

Love it!We love all the little critter books. They are always so colorful and fun to read. We also add a little more fun by trying to find the frog, spider and mouse on each page. In some of the books there is just the spider, in some it is just the mouse, and in others it is both. Sometimes there is a frog and a grasshopper too. They are hidden a lot of the time and it is fun to try to search them out. We especially love this one.
A bad message on every page
I bought this book sight unseen, and boy, what a mistake. Every page has a bad message. The little boy monster plays with a toy gun, shoots aliens with a ray gun, attacks a boat, and there is violent imagery throughout. The dad yells at the boy, and then lets him eat cookies before bed. I realize I sound like a total prude, but there are plenty of books out there that don't focus on fighting and shooting. My husband wants to throw it away, but I think I can put stickers over the gun images and paste some better text over the violent passages. Before I stopped reading it to my daughter, I would change the words when reading it aloud - instead of using a ray gun to shoot the alien, he was "using his sensor to scan the alien". But that got tiresome. Anyway, there are plenty of ways to have an adventurous storyline that doesn't revolve around violence. I don't let my daughter play with toy guns, but I think I'm in the minority. And she's not a girly girl - her favorite toys are legos, cars, and oh yes, books.
Just Go To Bed is just OK
I'm a huge fan of Mercer Mayer's books and they are always a huge hit around the house except for this one. This was is about the little one doing just about anything not to go to bed by pretending to be and do various things, with the father just replying "Just go to bed", nothing more. I felt it was very outdated in that the father just barks orderes and no explainations or further communication. I guess I expected the book to have the parent explain or demonstrate in a crafty way why it is important for wee ones to rest or prepare for bedtime. Nothing of the sort here. This book is a dud in my opinion with so many missed opportunities to educate and amuse children and parents. You can find much better books out there to help with bed time rituals.
Best Book Series
As a child my daughter always looked forward to me reading Little Critter books to her. Her first book was - Just Go To Bed - it was given to her for her 2nd birthday. I continue to send her the books when I see a new one and I know that she still enjoys them as much as ever (she is now 27 years old). She had them memorized but never grew tired of them. It is an absolutely wonderful series for children of all ages!
Great bed time story!
We purchased this book for our kids when they were young and have recently purchased a copy for our new grand baby. This is an excellent bed time story for kids who like to put off getting ready for bed and going to bed as long as possible. Great pictures and a fun story line! I don't think you can go wrong with any Mercer Mayer book.

Great BookWe bought this for our 8 year old who loves science and it is wonderful. We all have had a great time doing the experiments. All the information is fun and easy to read. It is a really fun way to teach and learn!
Gotta Love This...
This is part of a series of books designed to encourage learning for kids...glad I found it...I'm told that the kids (and their parents) loved it!
Science Fun
This is a good book for any child interested in Science. I also used this for our Cub Scout group and they had a great time. I appreciate the simple directions.
The Everything Kid's Science Experiments Book
Felt that the experiments were more kindergarten/primary grades. Had expected something more stimulating that would encourage interest and stimulation for science fair projects. Definitely not worth the space in our children's library.
Great for Science Lovers
Ordered these books as prizes for science fair winners. Books are engaging and interesting. Our 5th - 6th graders loved them.

For All Thomas FansMy son is two and obssessed with Thomas. With the ABC book, it helps encourage him to learn his letters while he still gets to enjoy his engines.
Good for Learning
My daughter is 20 months old and is a huge fan of Thomas. After I started reading this book to her, at about 19 months old, she started saying her letters. She can say nearly every letter sound at least kind of, despite the fact that she could say only the word baby back then and has since learned otherwise only dada, nana, and mama. Just today, she pointed to a letter and said it on her own. She likes to look at this book while on the potty. I think it is pretty durable. The pages are thick and semi-glossy. The cover is an ordinary, glossy hardcover.
Great Way For Train Lovers To Learn Their ABC's
Thomas's ABC Book features color photographs of the beloved characters that live and work on the Island of Sodor, including Bertie the Bus, Sir Topham Hatt, Edward, James, Toby, Percy, Edward, and James. Each letter of the alphabet is highlighted, and is tied into a short sentence about the picture.
For example:
A" is for all aboard. "All aboard!" calls Thomas the Tank Engine.
"Q" is for quick. James the Red Engine comes to a quick stop.
This is a delightful book that introduces the alphabet for small children, and is especially engaging because of the colorful pictures that are actually clear still from videos (at least, that's what they look like). Young train enthusiasts will especially love this book-as well as parents wanting a short (but educational) bed-time story to read to the kids.
An OK book
I wouldn't say this is the greatest book to learn ABC from. However, my 2 year old, a Thomas fan, loves this book. Big colorful pictures.
less than perfect but still a must-have for Thomas fans
Paperback with flimsy paper that doesn't stand up to much wear. Our copy is dog-eared and the back cover is ripped off and that didn't take long.
There is one page per letter with a photo from the televison show depicting the theme of that letter (not a hand drawn or computer generated illustration or cartoon). For example: A is for all aboard and the photo is of Thomas stopped at a station. The photos are great. Every page has one sentence at the bottom that uses the word in context. I do have a complaint that each letter is only shown in the upper case. Despite much room available on the page, when the word is spelled out the first letter is in tiny font just like the rest of the letters. I would prefer if the presenting letter were a larger font to highlight its' use in the word. I was hoping to use this book as a way to teach the letters to my son and this is why I am critical of these factors.
With that said, any little Thomas the Tank Engine lover will absolutely love this book.
Some of the words are a stretch or strange (T is for tracks but then the photo shows Terence the tractor and the sentence is "Terence tells Thomas about his tracks". Why not use T for Thomas (the one word the children are most familiar with), or else use Terence as he is pictured, or just say that T is for Thomas, AND Terence, AND Tracks?
This book has gotten us through some long car trips and air flights.
With all my little criticisms, I feel Iit's low cost justifies its purchase and replacement when it wears out.
