tray stays putIt fits snugly on the bumbo seat. I don't like how you have to take it off and on to get your baby out, taking the tray on and off with an infant still in the seat is not the easiest. Other than it does what it suppose to.
Bumbo tray
The tray in the picture is not ther same tray that I received. It must be a different model. It seems to work fine but not as secure as the one pictured. I am still happy with it for the most part.
If your tray doesn't stay in place it's because you haven't properly attached it
I usually don't write reviews if there are several on the board, however I was shocked to see so many bad reviews, and it's ovbious to me that those reviewers who said their child pulled the tray top off, didn't properly attached it.
First, you have to put this tray together as it comes in two pieces, the center piece that attaches to the front of the bumbo attaches to the top piece AND YOU HAVE TO HEAR IT SNAP. After that you never take them apart, there's simply no need (and looking at it I think it'd be really hard to do actually) the whole thing together is the tray.
Then to attach the tray to the Bumbo seat SIT YOUR CHILD IN THE SEAT and slide the top tray part over the middle hump of the bumbo, then slide the center part under the bottom of the Bumbo seat.
There is no way a baby could pull the tray off, as you will find it requires a little effort to remove it by an adult in fact, as it should be.
I have NEVER taken my baby out of the seat with the tray on it, and I can't find the instructions now but I'm pretty sure it said something there about that... in any case, the Bumbo snuggles your baby in a way that I think I would hurt my baby's legs if I pull him out with the tray on anyway... or maybe my baby is just too fat! (LOL)
But seriously, this tray is great... before, when I sat my baby in the seat he'd look at his toys on the floor with a sad face, because they were just out of reach for him, now they can be placed on the tray and he'll play for happily for a long time.
Also, THIS SEAT IS NOT A HIGH CHAIR AND SHOULD NOT BE USED AS ONE there's a BIG WARNING about that on the seat, actually... your baby could get out of the seat and fall, so if you place it on a high surface your baby could end up hurt. This seat should be use at floor level only.
A great early substitute for a high chair
We use the tray several times a day, because my son is still a bit too young for the high chair, but is eating solid food. It's so handy -- and shouldn't pop off the chair if you've put it on correctly. My son is a wiggler, but that tray doesn't budge. He likes to bang his toys on the tray, and it provides some extra protection from food spills.
The only downside is that it's sort of tough to properly attach the tray while the baby's in the chair. (I can't get him in around it.) To get the tray attached on the bottom, I have to slide the chair just a little off the edge of the counter or table, which might not be the safest. (Of course, I only need to slide him off an inch or two, not halfway.)
Terrible Design
We bought this at Babies R Us and it is now in the recycle bin less than a month later. Save yourself the $10.

Not for allMy 5 month old just didn't feel comfortable in this seat. I think it just depends on the child. He is shorter and chunkier and wanted to move his legs around more than the Bumbo allowed. He likes his high chair much better.
Great for baby
If your baby is starting to sit this is a perfect thing to have. Our baby sits and plays with toys on the tray. Easy to wash. The seat isn't cold and plastic-y it warms quickly.
life-saver for parents
what an amazing chair...this is great for teaching my son HOW to sit up...and it's a life-saver for me when I need to cook din-din...I wish I had known about these when I raised my daughter many years ago!
Bad Fit
This is not the best for chunky or squirmy babies. My LO's thighs sometime get her stuck in in the chairand the tray is a little difficult to get on the chair once she's in it.
Be aware that squirmy babies can flip the chair if they are not watched closely. We have had a few close calls. Enough to make us retire the chair after only a month or so.
good, but not secure for a squirmy child
It was fun to see my son able to sit upright in this because it is very supportive for young ones with little muscle strength. It is being grown out of quickly though. He has pretty chunky legs and sometimes it's hard to get him in or out...it sticks to his rotund diapered backside. Also, make sure your are RIGHT there when your baby is in it. If they twist or arch backwards your child could get seriously hurt if they tumble out. My son is very squirmy and we've had several close calls.

An EXCELLENT way to help the baby sit and eat!!I was really resistant to buying this when I first saw it in Wal-Mart, because it looked like the latest 'baby trend'.
Our baby is still learning how to sit without support, and just started eating baby food, and this turned out PERFECT for him.
We can put him in there (with the tray) to play for short times while doing the dishes, etc., with some toys, and he'll play to his heart's content. It's been really helpful with spoon-feeding him (we don't have a high-chair)--on the floor, on the table, anywhere with a large enough surface to hold him safely. And he's obviously getting a lot of exercise and practice with his core muscles learning to balance and sit.
Also very light, nice and soft, comfortable, and easy for travel.
Fantastic. Once he's too big for it (or old enough to figure out how to get out of it), it'll go into storage for the next baby.
PEOPLE CAN BE SO STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!
THE BUMBO WAS RECALLED IN 2007. NOT FOR A DEFECTIVE DESIGN, BUT FOR FAULTY PARENTS. THIS PRODUCT HAS HELPED MY DAUGHTER EXCEL IN MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT. I SIT ON THE FLOOR WITH HER AND PLAY. BABIES HAVE HAD SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA FROM FALLING. THIS IS NOT A PRODUCT TO BE USED UNSUPERVISED. THE TERM BABYSITTER IN THIS CASE MEANS YOUR CHILD SITS IN IT; IT IS NOT SOMETHING YOU LEAVE YOUR LITTLE ONE IN WHILE YOU DO HOUSEWORK! I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PICS FROM PROUD PARENTS OF THIER KIDS ON A TABLE, CHAIR AND EVEN THE COUCH!DO NOT RISK A HEAD INJURY SO YOU CAN DO YOUR DISHES. THE BUMBO IS NOT A BOOSTER SEAT!!! IT IS A GREAT PRODUCT, WHEN USED PROPERLY. MY ANGEL FITS IN IT COMFORTABLY AND I WISH I HAD FOUND IT ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I AM AMAZED AT HOW MUCH SHE'S DEVELOPED IN JUST A WEEK OF HAVING IT. I USE IT FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES, THREE TIMES A DAY AFTER HER TUMMY TIME. IT'S GREAT TO TAKE PICTURES OF HER IN IT TOO.
How can you tip this over?
I just got the Bumbo for my 4 month old. He seems to like it. He has been dying to sit up, he tries to do it on his own but can not get up. I have seen a number of reviews that say there child fell over. I put my child in and gave him a couple of pushes in a controled enviroment to see if he would tip. I could not come close to tipping it over. I put my 3yr old to the test. I offered a pack of M&Ms if she could tip it over without touching the floor. She was unable to tip it over. I don't see how a 4 month old would tip over. Granted my kid is just over 50% in weight and height but my 3yr could not do it either. I would never put this on an elevated surface but on the floor I can not see how it would tip.
It is also softer that i realized. I would think it mold to your childs body to a degree. I asked my 3yr old if it was tight and she said it was but she kept getting in it.
I also bought the tray so he can play with toys while sitting.
So far I am pleased with the purchase. I will update after I have had it a little longer.
Try Before You Buy
I agree with some other reviewers that, if at all possible, you should borrow a Bumbo seat from a friend before you buy one. I mostly used the Bumbo seat in the bathroom, I would just keep it in there and when I had to go to the bathroom I would put my daughter in there until I was done. It worked great for that because it was a small amount of time that she was in the seat. If she was in the seat for an longer period of time, 10 minutes or more, she would start arching her back to try and get out of the seat.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the Bumbo is a novelty item, don't feel like you have to buy it.
Helps babies sit, but not for everyone.
My baby tried this at 3.5 and she sat, kinda, but then was all kinda crumpled in the middle too. So it helped her sit, in a sense, but then I had to wonder why I was helping her sit when she wasn't ready. She seems to be developing her stomach muscles other ways -- push ups during tummy time, pulling forwards when I hold her, and recently kicking her legs in the air hundreds of times a day, enough to make the even the most devoted pilates adherent look lazy. I tried it again about a month later and she could support herself better, but didn't seem to like it and cried to get out. So I didn't push it on her. It felt like I was kind of squishing her into a position she wasn't ready for yet. I decided in the end to not push her development in this way, and she learned to sit up on her own soon enough.
So in conclusion, some babies may like it and it may be useful them occupied if you need to do something, but just know that not all babies will respond in the same way.

Why Would Anyone Get the Bumbo? This is sooo much better than the Bumbo, and here's why: first, it comes with a tray--you have to buy the tray separately for the Bumbo. The tray for the bebepod is adjustable which is great for growing baby. The tray also comes with two adorable plastic placemats for easy clean-up. It also has a toy that attaches to the tray and my daughter loves it. It keeps her entertained for a while. No such thing with the Bumbo. You can also switch out the tray for a little knob that the baby can hold onto. Again, no such thing with the Bumbo. Plus, the bebepod is just cuter!!! I highly recommend this product.
This seat is a lifsaver!
When trying to decide between the Bebe pod and the Bumbo, I did quite a bit of research and asking around. I found several more advantages to the Bebe pod over the Bumbo that I wanted for my baby. It came with a tray and toy, had straps, had larger leg holes, and was softer. All of these features were important to me. I am so glad I chose the Bebe pod! My 4 month old is almost 20 pounds with "thunder thighs." I love the larger leg holes, and he loves the toy and tray. The seat gives him a chance to strengthen his back and practice sitting, and it gives my arms a well needed rest. I'm so happy with this seat!
My babies love this!
I got this to go with the watermelon bebePod that I got earlier! I have twins and anything that keeps them occupied while helping them learn to sit up is great! Both girls love their seats! They especially love the toys that attach to the trays. One of my girls spends most of her time trying to get the toy loose so she can have a good chew on it!
The seats have come in handy when it comes to feeding time as well! So much easier to use when they are younger (5/6 months) than a regular highchair. They take up less space and they are super portable.
I also like that even though my girls' thighs are on the chunky side they fit nicely in this chair. I had heard that other similar chairs where a bit small on the leg holes.
All in all I would highly recommend these seats! A great buy!
Better than Bumbo
I was glad I ended up ordering the bebePod vs. Bumbo because bebePod has a strap, has more thigh/leg room, and cheaper! My son who is 2.5 mos old just love sitting on this chair and playing on the toy - all great quality. The smell some other reviewers mentioned did not bother me at all - it doesn't stink or smells toxic...just smells like diaper cream. (Disclosure: My baby maybe a little younger than others when they start using this chair but please be advise that your baby should have strong head/neck support before using this chair.)
I love it more than he did.
I love the concept of this seat, unfortunately my son only enjoyed the toy that never stays attached to the tray. I got it for him around 4-5 months and now at 7 months still is not interested. A bummer for how much it cost.

livingston says "Bumbo helped my son sit up when he needed support ...
I received a Bumbo seat out of my record sissy. I was happy I came in fresh and enjoy not differentiate what gender he was having until the big day. I was able to put my son in it in two months. At first he liked being in it, because it requires a lot of script. As he grew stronger he was competent to sit on it for longer amounts of time. I always had to use it at the pace now that my son could vault beyond. Even with supervision, which was not all on countertops and tables in this venue. Also, do not hold the feet of the tray could certainly have gotten away with his legs or hands. This seat will nourish the muscles to promote the essence of my son. He liked to sit on the skin and observer of the leaves. It was an accommodation type to put my son so he could see things without my having to teach. We both liked the autonomy as a nurse gave him support. It's still sitting there since the time long time but now he can sit by itself is not necessary, the Bumbo.
