Customer Reviews

Not for and active baby
I don't leave reviews often, but I felt inclined to do so because our experience with this seat. I think the seat is really cool, and I wish it would have worked for us. I put it on my registry and got it as a gift, so I threw out the box early assuming I would not want to take it back. When my son Dylan was old enough (3mo) to sit in it well I think it was too late! I should have known off the bat because right out of the womb he was already arching his back and trying to do things newborns shouldn't do. But because he likes to be moving so much and tries to sit up and arch his back well the issue of "when children stretch their backs, they can slip out of the seat and fall on the floor sustaining severe skull injuries" they state can occur with this seat occurs with our son. Luckily he hasn't sustained any injuries because I am always close enough to prevent things to happen, but if you have a active little baby who is always arching there back this is not the seat for you most likely. All the times I have put him in it he arches his back and tips the whole thing over or somehow gets out of it. But this is only a suggestion and and offer or advice to help you decide since it is something that might happen if you decide to buy this chair.
satisfied
My 4 month old enjoys her time in the bumbo, and so does my 14 month old, but not for very long lol. Durable product constructed well, and worth the purchase!
Does not help child learn to sit on his/her own
The Bumbo seat does not help a child learn to sit on his/her own. This is a false and misleading statement made by the company. Yes, the chair allows the child to sit up before they've developed the muscles to do so one his own. It may help facilitate some interaction with others (although that is up to the individual). What is very important to realize is that the seat is designed to do the work of a child's un-developed core muscles FOR him which actually prevents the strengthening of those muscles. When your baby struggles to sit on his own, he is not only developing those important core muscles but is also learning balance as well. If you do use a Bumbo, make sure you are giving your child plenty of opportunities to develop and strengthen those muscles outside of the bumbo chair!
Baby Hated It
While the idea for this is great. My daughter hated it! The moment I put her in it for the first time, she smiled and then screamed. So I took her out. Then I tried it again, and again she screamed. I decided to give it a couple of days. I put her in it when she was very content, and again she screamed. Well, time for a return. It's too bad because she really was able to sit up in it very well, she just hated it.
Good but Only for so Long
This seat doesn't work for babies that have chunky little legs. It's very hard to get them in and out if they do. If a baby is smaller, it is great though, so it just depends on the size and shape of your baby.

Not for all
My 5 month old just didn't feel comfortable in this seat. I think it just depends on the child. He is shorter and chunkier and wanted to move his legs around more than the Bumbo allowed. He likes his high chair much better.
Great for baby
If your baby is starting to sit this is a perfect thing to have. Our baby sits and plays with toys on the tray. Easy to wash. The seat isn't cold and plastic-y it warms quickly.
life-saver for parents
what an amazing chair...this is great for teaching my son HOW to sit up...and it's a life-saver for me when I need to cook din-din...I wish I had known about these when I raised my daughter many years ago!
Bad Fit
This is not the best for chunky or squirmy babies. My LO's thighs sometime get her stuck in in the chairand the tray is a little difficult to get on the chair once she's in it.

Be aware that squirmy babies can flip the chair if they are not watched closely. We have had a few close calls. Enough to make us retire the chair after only a month or so.
good, but not secure for a squirmy child
It was fun to see my son able to sit upright in this because it is very supportive for young ones with little muscle strength. It is being grown out of quickly though. He has pretty chunky legs and sometimes it's hard to get him in or out...it sticks to his rotund diapered backside. Also, make sure your are RIGHT there when your baby is in it. If they twist or arch backwards your child could get seriously hurt if they tumble out. My son is very squirmy and we've had several close calls.

hope it was worth the wait.
It was hard to find the yellow bumbo. We didn't want the blue, pink and green versions that are so common. We got the last one in stock. It took a while to get. As far as the product goes we haven't used it yet since our child is still on the way. Some of our friends love them and some don't. We shall find out soon for ourselves.
Great invention
I enjoy this Bumbo seat for my 7 month daughter that is special needs and is having difficultiies sitting up. It was highly recommended by her phyical therapist.
Great chair!
What a wonderful chair! Barely used for less than 4 weeks and baby can sit up unassisted!
Yellow Bumbo Seats May Contain Lead or Cadmium
We just had our yellow bumbo seat tested after hearing that other yellow bumbo seats were found to contain lead. Our yellow bumbo seat turned out to have unacceptable levels of Cadmium, a heavy metal that is a known carcinogen. Do not buy the yellow seats. There is a high likelihood that you will be exposing your baby to dangerous chemicals. If you already have a yellow bumbo, get it tested or if you can't do that, get rid of it. Here is a link to a blog about this issue: [...]

The other colors have not been shown to be positive for either lead or cadmium, so you should be fine purchasing a different color.

If you have a yellow bumbo seat, consider contacting the manufacturer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission to complain. It is an outrage that a seat for babies, advertised as non-toxic, is actually quite toxic and potentially dangerous.
a must have for my baby
the bumbo chair is absolutely awesome. my daughter used this from 3 months all the way to 1 year old. she loved being able to sit up especially at family gatherings instead of being passed from hand to hand. we loved it so much i even bought one for my nephew, who is 3 months old. he loves sitting up and being able to see what's going on around him.
it is light weight and cleans up really well with a damp cloth. we've even travelled abroad with it.

Bumbo Seat Play Tray
I did not receive the one pictured actually the design has changed from the original one and I was disappointed by the product. I would not recommend purchasing.
Nice sturdy table top
I was a bit surprised at how strong the table top was. I was expecting pretty flimsy support, but it snugly fits the Bumbo seat and my 7 month-old loves being able to play with toys and eat Cheerios off the tray.

It is very secure when on the Bumbo, it's not going to fall off. It's so snug that taking it off quickly can be a pain so we just lift her out of the seat with the tray still attached; there's plenty of room for her legs to come out underneath the tray. Super easy to clean as there's not small groves or areas for food to get stuck in.

I wish we had bought this for our now 2.5 year old when he was a baby. Well worth the money.
Works well.
I got this for my 2nd child, because I already had the bumbo from my first. For me, I was able to sit my daughter in at just a couple of weeks old, because she is so strong she could hold her head up as soon as she was born, and steadily at 2 weeks. (Now 3 months old)

Now knowing what the others have stated: that they have said their children can rip the tray off the base, I can see how that would be possible. However, I don't have this problem because my daughter didn't have the strength or dexterity to do that when she first started using the chair, and the tray.

I like to use the Bright Starts Lots of Links and hook them on the edge of the tray, and hook toys to it. She really enjoys it, since she has started reaching for things and pulling them to her mouth.

This tray is awesome.
tray stays put
It fits snugly on the bumbo seat. I don't like how you have to take it off and on to get your baby out, taking the tray on and off with an infant still in the seat is not the easiest. Other than it does what it suppose to.
Bumbo tray
The tray in the picture is not ther same tray that I received. It must be a different model. It seems to work fine but not as secure as the one pictured. I am still happy with it for the most part.

Customer Reviews

We love it!
Our skinny minnie (just 12 lbs at 6 months) is too little to sit in her highchair. The highchair is just way too big for her! So the Bumbo is perfect for feeding her until she finally grows into the highchair but even after that we'll probably still use the Bumbo when we travel because who wants to bring the highchair on a plane?

The Bumbo is great because it helps them work their muscles to learn to sit up. Plus it makes a perfect feeding chair before your baby is big enough for the big highchair. My only complaint is that she was still too tiny for the Bumbo when we first got it at 3 months, but by 5 1/2 months, she finally fit! I know some babies are too fat for the Bumbo by then, but if you have a thin baby, you'll be fine! In fact, we got ours secondhand for $20 because the woman who bought it new had a chubby baby whose little legs never fit in the holes. Sad for him, but great for us!
My niece loved it
My sister in law uses this as a feeding chair, and my 6 month old niece absolutely loves it.
Good for baby
I bought my Bumbo for my oldest daughter, and it's proven invaluable for both babies.

I'm not the kind of mom to use my Bumbo in place of supervision. That's what the Pack-N-Play is for. :) So, all this talk of it being harmful to your child's spine is kind of ridiculous, IMO. I primarily used my Bumbo to feed my child, worked much better than the high chair we tried to use, because there was no sliding down the seat, not slipping from side to side, etc.

There were times when I needed to set the baby down for a moment, but she was crawling (my oldest walked at 9 months, so the Bumbo was pretty useless at that point) and wouldn't stay in one spot. The Bumbo was a great way to keep the baby still in one spot while I did something that wouldn't let me watch her closely. Like while I was preparing dinner, she could sit on the Bumbo on the countertop (wide counter, she was next to the wall, about 2.5 feet from the edge) while I did my thing about a foot away. It allowed me the chance to spend time with her while I did things I had to do.

I've done an exhaustive search on Google, but I've not seen a single site where a *doctor* (zealous website authors don't count as doctors, just as spreaders of urban legend in some cases) recomended against using a Bumbo. I've had several different pediatricians (group practice), and none has ever told me to discontinue use of the Bumbo. I think they actually appreciated me taking it along, since holding the baby still makes for a faster exam!
lower the price please?
These seats are great but way too expensive. It's not made of diamonds for goodness sake and you can only use it for a certain short period of time. If you have a big fat baby, you can't use it at all--her chubby legs will be too big for the leg holes. And once your baby learns to sit on her own, you don't need it at all, so the cost is almost $10/month.
It is very sturdy and the colors are cute. They make great hand-me-downs as they stand up to a lot of use. If you know someone who owns one but doesn't need it anymore, maybe they'll pass it on to you. I don't see why not.
The Bumbo is fabulous!
My baby loves her Bumbo! It really helps her to sit up and get to know her surroundings without using pillows, etc. to prop her up. I also feel more at ease using the Bumbo opposed to pillows, because I know that she won't slump over. Although this item is a pit pricey, I would definitely recommend this product to others.

jessc0125 says "The bumbo chair is a life saver!" about Bumbo ...

The Bumbo chair was our life saver! It was so in the list to have a power center sit where I could do some things around the concert hall. It is very safe as the Bank of England, but once she got old enough they could tip themselves out of it. It claims to help the babies learn to sit wiser, and I in him! It really helped him learn to sit and feed the muscles. It is very sunny, manipulate, and can question the use of a memory to another. I reach-me-down to allow it to sit and take with toys, but also dismissed as a flexible intoxicated chair!Itty Bitty was a pricy, but definitely worth it! This was by far, dominate the feeling that I bought for our daughter. She loved being able to sit and play along improvise with toys as an alternative to having to fix. It seeks to dominate for babies 3-4 months who are sick and tired of laying down in a hesitant, but not big enough to sit in your own time. I absolutely have to convince anyone this result!
