Great Monitor
I have owned and used this monitor for more than 5 years with all 3 of my children. It has been great! There are no fancy bells or whistles but I have been able to hear every little sound my children have made while sleeping.

I did run into trouble for the first time this year when I had to use the monitor at my in laws house and my sister in law had her newer monitor set up. I don't know if it as some kind of frequency interference or what but in that instance the monitor was useless. That however is the first and only time we have ever had any sort of issue since we purchased this in 2003.

I do not keep things for the sake of keeping them but this monitor is one that I will not get rid of when I no longer need it for my little one. I will keep this in my linen closet for out of town guests with little ones and I plan on getting many more years out of this monitor. Great deal for the money!
third one's a charm
This is our third child, so third monitor. We liked the others sometimes, but this one was the better one. It was usable all the way around the block when baby was napping (can't keep the boys indoors long!). I so loved the cordless option, but mostly kept the receivers plugged in to preserve the 9-volt batteries. The night light was also helpful to us. I didn't give it 5 stars as there were some times that I had to change the channel to clear up static, but obviously, that's why they made it with different channels. I have two close neighbors with babies, and would guess that was part of interference problem.
Iffy - Keep your reciept.
We registered for and recieved this monitor when we had our first child. It was FANTASTIC!! We never had any problems with it whatsoever. Then, when our son became a toddler, he broke the base. We were expecting our 2nd child at the time so we just replaced it. Everything started out just fine. But very shortly after we bought it, the channel switches went all screwy. To listen on channel 2, the base had to be on channel 1 and the recievers on channel 2. then the channel switches on the recievers sort of shorted out. If they were even slightly jostled they would go into this in-between two channels setting and turn the reception to static. We had to constantly jiggle them to get them back to the correct channel, which wasn't actually the correct channel according to the switch on the base. ???

So, our first experience with these monitors was exceptionally good. Our 2nd and last experience was disappointing. I think we'll try the Graco set this time around.
Keep your receipt!
I bought the Safety 1st Safe Glow Monitor late last year. Now it switches off in the middle of the night without warning. I can't help but wonder how many times my daughter has woken up crying and I didn't hear her because I was depending on this thing??? I tried to call Safety 1st to ask them about and was asked to jump through hoops in order to get a replacement for this cheap monitor. You will be asked to fax your receipt along with your information. They verify it and then ask you to mail certain parts from the unit. Finally they will send you a check or voucher to replace it. NOT worth my time. I've already told them that I am going to buy another monitor, but it will NOT be a Safety 1st product.
Avoid
When we first got this monitor set, the receivers would randomly screech out loud static which was really super. But then they wouldn't, when they weren't working at all. Sometimes they would just turn off, but you could get them to work with a vigorous shake, jiggle of the wire in the jack, or a slap against your palm. Great.

So we contacted Safety 1st and they sent us a new set. This set isn't as crappy as the 1st set but there is a lot of interference that comes and goes - worse with one of the recievers than the other and at random intervals. As the fearless GW Bush said: "fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again." So we decided these are going back and we just ordered a Graco monitor set.

The quality of the product is clearly poor. My wife and I both very much liked the design and the night-light and loops and such, but if they don't work properly there isn't much a good design can do to help.

I'd suggest that parents steer clear of these and try another brand.

BAD
Bought this monitor once, it stopped working within a few weeks. Exchanged it for another one and it stopped in just a few days. The sound was awful on it. It was always making a static noise.
Works Great for the Prince
I purchased this monitor today and I think it is just fine for the price. I simply want to hear the baby when she makes a sound or wakes up. The monitor picks this up clearly and static is almost non-existent if I don't turn the volume to the highest level. I have wireless DSL in my home and there is no interference on the two channels. I believe that that a baby monitor is something that will differ so much from one home to another that you should buy this locally so that you can take it back if necessary. I decided to go with cheaper and work my way up...fortunately, I won't have to. Oh, I also love that this monitor comes with power cords as well as a battery option.
Worthless if you have wireless internet network at home
Does not work if you have wireless internet network (I have verizon's wireless router). All you hear is constant static, even putting the base unit across the house from the router. Only buy if you use cable internet and not wireless.
Great for the price.
The temp. feature is great to have. The night light can be handy at times. The battery life on the base is poor but good on the receiver, I tend to use the power cord usually. I get a slight buzz at about 20ft at full vol. but anything past 40ft is noisy. The indicator lights are handy if I am watching TV. Overall I am happy with the unit. I do recommend getting the one with 2 receivers, one for the bedroom and one for the family room, that way you can just leave them plugged in and not have to worry about batteries
Okay monitor for a low price
My house isn't that big and I don't spend very much time away from my baby, so when I wanted to buy a baby monitor I just wanted to get whatever was cheap and would do the job. This monitor does meet my expectations.

This monitor is either all static or all clear. If I have static, I just move the receiver around a bit until it gets clear. It doesn't bother me to do this. I can always seem to find a clear place to sit the receiver.

I love the temperature feature. I didn't know I needed this feature, but it's nice to monitor the room temperature near the baby. I even sit the monitor on the floor next to the baby bouncer to see if it's colder down there.

Disappointing and expensive baby monitor
This product was #130 more than at retail. I could not find it at retail so bought it here.

It never charges up. If I unplug it, it should run for hours. It does not. It always shows charging but never gets charged.

I am very disappointed.
Liked it at first
At first, we liked this monitor. It has a slim, attractive design, the buttons are relatively easy to use, and it has good range. Over time, we found that the battery does not last over night (the parent unit needs to be moved from the living room to parents' room at night, and the plug is in a tight place behind things - we could move it, but there's no better place), and if the power goes off during a storm at night, the parent unit emits a VERY loud beep. The beep is clearly intended to alert the parent that the power has gone out - but c'mon - if the power comes right back on again, the child unit should come back on...but it doesn't. So, the parent unit beeps like crazy, and you have to sneak into your child's room (hope your floor doesn't creak) and turn the child unit back on again. Between the beeping and the creaking, baby will likely wake. Thanks a lot. Other problems: difficult to get the battery in and out, the belt clip is not well secured to the unit, no charging cradle for the parent unit, and it picks up a ton of white noise (product engineers, if you're reading this: white noise is not hard to filter out, so filter it out - or try a gate like audio engineers do to turn a signal on or off depending on decibel levels coming through). This product does its basic job, but so do the cheaper models. Don't buy this for the perks it advertises; I don't detect any "high-definition". The cheaper models don't have the problems this one has.
Fantastic, but I am still looking for a better one (with 2 receivers)
This monitor has exceptional clarity. That is the best advantage to this monitor. I have had this monitor and use it 24/7 for the past 21 months. I have debated long and hard whether to retire this and buy another unit that fits me better. The reason why I am shopping for a new unit is because this only has one receiver and I live in a 2-story. I have to take the unit + charger downstairs with me until I go to bed. Over time, the battery has gotten weaker and weaker and it USED to work about 3 hours without plugging in, but now, 21 months later, its only good for about 1.5 hours. It is a hassle to move the charger (even though small), because I have all outlets child proofed, and I have to undo the box, unplug it, put the box back on, rinse and repeat. I would give this 5 stars if only I could get a second parental unit!

Benefits:
* crystal clear and I mean ZERO static or interference, ever!
* more contemporary design for adults means my kiddo is less likely to play with it for long
* very sleek and slender. Blends in discreetly (unless the power goes out, see below details).

Shortfalls:
* only 1 receiver. this is the biggest complaint from me.
* no low-battery signal on the receiver. yet it lights up different colors for other things like charging or battery use. Stupid design flaw. It turns off and you never know until you look at it :-(
* the base unit has 2 stupid design flaws: it beeps repeatedly for like a minute when the power goes out and comes back on. That will wake most babies in the middle of the night! Then, design flaw #2, it FLASHES red lights after this point. The reason being is that it is a signal that the base unit is on, but the parental receiver is not. The parental receiver never turns back on after a power interuption. Very stupid design (and shouldn't the parental unit have all the signals, not the one in the babies room?) Dumb.
* the belt clip is absolutely useless. It twists 1/4 turn to remove. Well, that means everytime I bend over or sit down with it attached to my belt, it twists 1/4 turn or more and the unit falls from my waist and crashes to the hard tile floor. However, a benefit is that all those crashes haven't killed it.

Despite those annoyances, it is of superior clarity and quality. I would recommend for those reasons alone, but with the caveat that there are some disappointments to an outstanding monitor.

Defective?
I purchased this monitor at a major baby chain store because I had read positive reviews online. It was a letdown. I left it plugged in for a couple weeks. I was disappointed in that the parent unit never charged no matter what I did, thus it wasn't portable. Also, even though I could hear my baby in great detail, when she cried loudly enough (which happened often) the parent unit turned itself off; very annoying and worrisome. So, I decided to return it. Unfortunately, the store would only do an exchange for the exact item because the package had been opened; frustrating. Well, same problem. So, I contacted the monitor manufacturer and they said these were unusual problems and would exchange the monitor for a different model as this model had been discontinued. No surprise. Hope for better luck next time.
Fanatastic monitor
We bought this monitor when we moved from an apartment to a house and baby got her own room. I don't like to wait until my baby is really crying to go in to feed her, and I was afraid that a monitor would not wake me when the baby was making softer sounds. I can hear my baby cooing and even moving in the crib. It is so sensitive, I totally trust now that I will wake up when I need to. It is digitally encoded so you only hear the sounds coming from the room that the base unit is in, no outside interference. I have also noticed that music that I can barely hear in the room from her mobile is magnified in the parent unit. We have also dropped the parent unit on the floor several times and it still works fine. We had bought an Angel Care monitor and it didn't even work right out of the box. I saw one review commented on the flashing light on the base unit, but it doesn't bother me or my baby at all. Overall I think this is one of the best. I also like that I can visualize the noise level by the red lines, so that while I am showering I can detect that my baby is crying even though I can't hear it.

Almost 4 years old and going strong
For us, this monitor has been very durable and such a lifesaver for almost 4 years now. We use it at every nap, 10 hours a night, and it has even made multiple trips with us. The only thing I have noticed from time to time is that the sound has gotten a little touchy-- I sometimes have to work with it to get it where I want it, but that just began within the past few months and it's really not a big hassle. We are now expecting baby #2 and I just wish we could get an extra camera for this monitor!
Never worked right
If this had not been a gift without a gift receipt we would have taken it back after the first day. The video monitor had *severe* vertical hold issues and would not stop rolling. Very entertaining for the cats, not so much for us, especially at night. Both the audio and video had terrible interference issues. Maybe it was our Wi-Fi, maybe it was sunspots. Either way both would hiss at random intervals, completely obscuring the signal, even if the receiver was right next to the optical device. Last night, it just stopped working. Nothing but hiss, no matter what channel it was on. If the video monitor wasn't a tube-TV I'd take a hammer to it. If it was possible to give zero stars, I would.
Worth the Money!
When we first bought this monitor over 3 1/2 years ago, we read the previous reviews and expected the monitor to only last 6 months. So, when it stopped working at a year old, we were happy it lasted so long. BUT THEN, WE FOUND THE EASY FIX! The monitor wasn't even turning on, so we figured it was an internal problem. My husband messed with it however and we discovered that removing the clear plastic cover over the lights, released the power button from its stuck position (which was not visually apparent) and that was it! Now, 3 1/2 years and we are still happy with it.

I'll admit that with our 2nd child, we tried to upgrade to a more expensive video monitor with a less bulky screen, but it was constantly getting static and had this movement sensor that you couldn't turn off! Needless to say, we went back to this one.

I do not claim this one to be perfect however. I wish that there were numbers on the volume dial, so I drew a permanent dot on the spot where I like it to be set. It does occasionally get static or the picture flips but it happens less than any other monitors we've had and it doesn't happen often enough to bother me. With a simple adjustment, it stops. The camera is easy to angle how you want on the baby and it is nice to be able to carry around just the volume piece if you like. You can order additional ones as well.

Over the years, I have tried to prolong the life of the screen. I have the volume on all night but I turn off the screen and only turn it on to check if my son is really awake (meaning he's standing up in his crib).

Overall, definitely worth the money! I still use it every night and it shows no signs of dying out!
Stopped working after 15 months
Our monitor officially stopped working 2 days ago. We will replace it with another brand, b/c we find it very reassuring to see the baby at night and check on him w/o opening the bedroom door. The monitor's plug is a huge and bulky square that gets hot when plugged in. The plug seems to be the reason the monitor is not working because when we adjust it and hold it into the outlet the picture appears for short bursts of time. However, once it is let go, the unit is out again. I was surprised it only worked for a little over a year. I would not recommend purchasing an expensive product like this only to have to replace it in a short period of time. Also, the heat from the plug seems dangerous.
Love it!
It's fantastic! Ours has been pluged in and turned on since April 2005 and it's now 2009. We used it for our first son born in 2005 and we leave the audio device on in the kitchen and truthfully we have only EVER turned it off when we go on vacation. The video TV still works as well now as it did when we first bought it. We are using it again for our newborn and if it ever stops working I will buy the same one again.
It has been left on for 3 years 9 months straight and it's as good now as when we first purchased it!

No problems
I got exactly what I was hoping for - a simple inexpensive baby monitor without all the bells and whistles. The transmitter is downstairs in the baby's room and the parent receiver is upstairs in the kitchen. No, the sound quality is not perfect but it is great for the price. I can't hear every breath she takes but I can hear when she's in her bed playing and I can hear when she's crying. I don't get any static.

My only real complaint with this is that it takes a 9V batter (or can be plugged in) but the battery is not rechargeable. I usually have it plugged in so I can't comment on how long the battery lasts.
Cheaply made monitor
I received this monitor and it did not work. I tried it in several outlets. When I opened the package I noticed that it was packaged poorly with the antenna's bent down to fix in the box. Plus the monitors were a very thin piece of plastic. I am not surprised it didn't work. You get what you pay for I guess.
Great monitor for the price
I have to say that I am very impressed with this monitor. I can't believe that for under $20 this monitor works awesome. My son uses a fan for white noise and I thought that was going to be a problem with the monitor. Yes, you can hear the fan, but it also picks up every noise that my son makes too...without static. We also live on a half acre lot and I was able to take the monitor to the end of the lot line to do some yard work and could still hear my baby with no problems. So, if you want a BASIC monitor, I would highly recommend this one. I would have given the rating 5 stars if the parent unit used a battery other than a 9V and had a shorter antenna. I had to go out and buy a battery specifically for the monitor and the antenna makes the monitor difficult to wear on a belt.
This is a complete disaster!
This product just does not work. It has a noise that would not allow you to enjoy your time talking or watching a movie and does not have any led indicator - so you better listen carefully.. is just a waste of [...] bucks. no big deal
Cat monitor?
I have a small cat tent on my veranda, and my Princess likes to be outside. However, she is very vocal when she wants to come inside, and I have to basically sit nearby to get her in. So I purchased this.

I tried it out today, and it worked perfectly! It is very sensitive to sounds, I could hear birds tweeting, children talking, and I heard the meow clear as if she was next to me. For me, that made it totally worth it.

However, there is white noise. A lot. It can be annoying if you wanted to sleep with it, but if you don't mind it while working or whatnot, then this is a great purchase. I would also recommend turning off the parent device first, as it makes a LOT of noise if the kids device is off.

All in all, I am satisfied with this purchase.

Crib diving anyone?

Barbara,

Our go along with child is very different from our first. Our second child is almost 22 months old. Approx. 3 months ago, she mastered climbing out of the crib. She is climber for undeviating. After several night of attempting to keep her in the crib, we felt for her safety, the best thing to was to make the switch to a toddler bed.

The toddler bed worked huge until about a week ago. Our daughter was a bit ill and was off her routine. Over the last couple of days (she is now healthy), we can't even get her into her bed. Hours of screaming to the point of throwing up. So we deem like this is not productive. But we don't want to reward her by allowing her to stay up until she passes out.

She is not old enough to negotiate or even explain why she needs to siesta. But we are exhausted to the point where my husband is sick over this.

Any advice, would be great!!

From: Jenn, Horntown, PA

Hi Jenn --

Been there, done that.
