A Step Backwards In Functionality
We bought the prior version of this system with our first son 2 years ago (the one with the orange accents.) We paid a premium for the security and sound quality, but what made the unit indespensible to us was the ability to start and stop the lullabyes remotely. The new generation has even better sound quality, but they've eliminated the ability to control the lights and lullabye functions from the parent unit. Hugely disapointing for us to lose those features, but we still never have static or interference, and the sound quality and temperature functions are great. We're keeping this one, but not a day goes by that we don't wish that our old orange unit still worked.

Love this monitor
In looking for a good baby monitor to replace an analog one with a lot of static I researched many different types of monitors including more expensive video monitors. I decided to go with the DECT technology monitor which I could not locate in any stores near me. This monitor is wonderful. We have absolutely no static at all and at night I hear nothing until baby stirs. I love how the blue lights light up with the different sound levels so I don't have to rely on just the sound at night or while watching a movie. I also love that it has the talk back technology, but can be annoying when the husband has the parent unit as he likes to talk into it. I also tested the range on this monitor and I can pick up the main unit 5 houses away (6 if you include my house) so it also has a really nice linkage range too (my old analog one doesn't even make it to the rear of my back yard). Two things I think could be improved on this monitor are: 1-Sound level on the parent unit is low even on the highest setting (here's where lights come in handy) but you can hear it fine when you are sleeping. 2-the ability to turn on the music from the parent unit would be nice. I absolutely love this monitor and would buy it again if I had to and recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and quiet voice monitor.
Great baby monitor for a great price
Great price on a great item. Item was received a week earlier than expected. Would recommend this baby monitor to anyone
Great Baby Monitor
As a first time parent I did a lot of research on all the items we purchased/registered for, and monitors were one item that seemed to really lack options that were highly rated across the board, so I was prepared to find this one disappointing. How wrong I was! This monitor has been an excellent purchase and after 6 months of use I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable audio baby monitor.

First, the sound quality is excellent and we have had absolutely no problems with interference or static, and our house is awash in electrical signals from other gadgets. Second, it does a great job of distinguishing between the baby's sounds and ambient/background noise. The blue LED lights not only indicate when it's sensing sound that you should be paying attention to, but they come in handy if you need to keep the monitor's volume low or if there is noise in the room you're monitoring from (e.g. you've got guests downstairs and the baby is sleeping upstairs). Third, the battery life of the receiver is great and the unit is lightweight and very portable - fits nicely in a pants pocket and the belt clip is pretty sturdy. Fourth, the digital temperature read out is very handy and it is nice to have the option of an audible alert (or not) if the room temperature rises above 80 degrees. Finally, the intercom feature is a nice bonus, although I have not used it extensively.

Because our house and lot are rather small, I have not really put its reception distance to serious test, but it does work very well even when I am outside in our back yard. My only wish would be for a second receiver, but overall I have been completely satisfied with this monitor and would encourage any parent to invest in this model, it's well worth the money.
Very good quality and works as advertised.
This baby monitor works as advertised.
As first time parents, after an extensive research, this unit worked out great. Here are the key points:
1. Great sound quality, no noise
2. Range is very good. Reception is clear all around house and basement (baby unit on second floor)
3. Battery life of parent unit is very good. I never got warning of battery needed charging. After each use, I dock into charger.
4. Sensitivity (temp) option is a plus.

There are no real complaints. Here are some things it can improve on:
1. Option for additional receiver (parent unit)
2. More music choice and option to control play time length

I highly recommend this.

Customer Reviews

Ok for the price.. but forget roaming cordless!!!
The range on this isn't near what it claims! I can't roam around my very small 2 story home without the handset being plugged in, which defeats the purpose of a cordless set! I'm trading up to the Avent Digital, supposed to be #1 monitor for 2010.Wish I would have done more research before I bought this monitor! I don't recommend this for anyone who lives in something larger than a 2 BR apartment. Also the volume is very low, can't hear it over the tv or music, and those are never very loud.
great monitor, better than sony baby call
At first we purchased the sony baby call after reading favorable reviews. The monitor made terrible squeaking and squealing noises that were very disturbing. A friend of mine recommended the graco and we are thrilled with it. No annoying noises, very small and portable. I can wear it around my neck as I walk around. All around great monitor. Definitely worth the money.
Works well for me
I am very glad with this purchase. Paid less than $50 so this is a great deal. Cannot vouch for the coverage distance but I have no interference or signal-dropping problems as I have only used this indoor. The rechargeable stand and the small size are great features.
Good, depending on how much you pay
We purchased this monitor while expecting. The purchase was on impulse from kids.woot, for well under the MSRP, and significantly less than is listed here (specifically, we paid $40). For that price, I think we got a great monitor. We had debated over getting a fancier one, but decided to wait and test this one out on our little girl before spending more money.

Pros:
- parent unit is really small and portable
- comes with accessories to make parent unit even more portable
- sound is really clear. It appears to pick up any noise, even a newborn making the tiniest squeak. This is even with the receiver about 6 feet away from the crib.
- you can expand with additional parent units
- has a vibrate function so you can keep track of the baby even in a loud environment
- battery life of parent unit is really long (haven't tested its limits yet, but definitely more than just a few hours).
- range is good. We live in a 1400 sq ft house and the baby is at the opposite end of where we usually are - reception is really clear
- allows for channel changes in case of random interference (I have no idea why some models, besides the secure digital ones, do not allow for that)
- has a light display to visually alert you of sounds getting picked up (once again, I have no idea why some other models do not have this)
- does not appear to be affected by a ton of other electronics (we have a wireless N router, a wireless G router, a DECT phone system, and numerous other items that probably give off feedback)
- receiver has a cool blue night light built in

Cons:
- parent unit is not very loud, even with volume at the max. I cannot imagine putting the volume below the max.
- cannot purchase an additional parent unit on its own, you have to buy an entire other monitor and then sync up the units. I guess the idea here is that you typically don't need more than one unit due to the portability factor.
- cannot use more than one of these within range of each other, as they try to automatically sync up (this is only an issue for people with more than one kid who want to use this monitor for both of them).
- in order to use the accessories for the parent unit (so you can hang it around your neck, strap to your arm, etc) you have to remove the back of the unit that holds in the battery. You don't disconnect the battery by doing this, but it would be easier if you could just switch back and forth without messing around so much.
- not worth it if you are paying full price due to the lack of other features
Compact, Logical, Well Designed, Easy to use
This unit is smaller than it appears which is exactly what I wanted. It fits comfortably around my arm where I can hear clearly or feel the vibration even when I am mowing the lawn. The controls are obvious right out of the box and I am impressed by the thoughtful design, (ie. rounded edges, subtle colors, night light feature, etc...). The range claim is a bit exaggerated and could be improved and the only other improvement would be to make the base unit battery operated so I could move it from room-to-room without having to unplug and re-plug the adapter. Overall great product and would love to see it stay on the market with minor improvements.

Customer Reviews

Great monitor!!
We bought this monitor after reviewing/researching several brands! Love this monitor!!!! Quit looking...buy this one!
Good video Monitor
Works great, have wireless phones and a wi-fi network hub that is between the camera and monitor and it work's w/o interference. Sound works good, and turning on the lullaby remotely is a good tool to use. Don't like that the audio cuts off if there is minimal sound. The whole unit goes mute until a sound is loud enough to trigger it and with the delay of the speaker kicking in, who knows what audio source actually tripped the speaker. Speaker isn't loud, keep that in mind for the hearing impaired. A lot of the audio-only devices are LOUD, this one...not so much.

We've had this thing for about a month, works like a champ. Keep in mind the decreased audio may be because we have the camera kinda far away to get a wide angle. We bought this for the "big girl bed" in the event she got up and around the safety bar.
It's okay when it works, while it worked
The main reason I purchase this monitor was for it's interference free feature, but that's about the only thing that really worked. The moment we received this monitor and test it, we noticed already that the sound comes in and out. Since we cannot find this at any of our local stores, we decide to live with it since we only use it for naps (our baby's crib is in our room).
So basically our video monitor only has video but not reliable sound, and then after a couple months, the video started to go too. The video quality got so bad I can hardly make out my baby's face! I called Levana support and the operator sounded like she did not believe the video quality has problems, told me a couple of times that I need APPROVAL FROM THEM before I can pay for the shipping to send it back and wait up to 6 weeks for them to test it. I asked them what am I gonna do without a baby monitor for 6 weeks, and they basically told me it was my problem. Soon after that, even the poor quality video went in and out. So we gave up and pay another $200 for a new summer infant bestview monitor and call our internet provider to reroute the cable so to minimize the interference with our wireless router. We're extremely happy with the summer infant monitor, the sound quality is excellent and we love that we can remote control the camera and zoom to look for our baby without going in her room. (she rolls around a lot!)

I read some really good reviews of this product before I made the purchase, and I believe that had I got one that works, I'll be quite happy too. So buyers be warned, if you buy this and has problems, you'll need to get approval, pay for shipping, purchase an additional monitor while you wait for them to test it and decide whether they are going to fix the alleged problem. All in all I think this is quite a risky choice.
Disappointed
I bought this monitor because of the great reviews and am very disappointed. The video feature is great, I like the added music feature and the battery life is great HOWEVER - the audio quality is TERRIBLE. My son is 3 weeks old and still sleeping in our room so it hasn't been a huge issue, but unless he's blue in the face screaming, the audio monitor won't pick it up. If he's down for a nap during the day, my first indication that he's awake is that I can see him moving in the video and his mouth is open or I can hear him down the hall (but not on the monitor). When it does pick up sound it goes in and out and doesn't hold the sound. I can't put him to sleep in his room overnight b/c I'm worried I won't hear him until he's hysterical...I haven't tried to return this yet, but i hope amazon makes it an easy process.
COLOMBIA -CALIFICIACION PRODUCTO

Customer Reviews

Go with the older model, 02640
So far so good but I wanted to share a bit of insight I gathered during the grueling process of monitor shopping. On the whole, this one is decent--battery life is at least 8 hours if video is not constantly on and the picture is workable, though not every crystal clear.

That said, the first Best View that I bought from [...] had a really grainy, pixelated image and wasn't all that hot. After reading other raving reviews I wondered if I hadn't gotten a dud. So I bought a second Best View from Target. It turned out that the first monitor was a 02644, the most recent model of this monitor, and the second was a 02640, the older version. Wondering if it was just my imagination that the older model seemed better I called Summer Infant customer service. The person I spoke to--who happened to be very helpful and pleasant--said that for some reason the newer model isn't working quite as well as the older one.

Long story short, it's a decent monitor all around but go with the older model if you have the choice.

Good monitor for us
This was the second video monitor we tried. The first (Summer Infant Day and Night) we returned because of the lack of privacy- you could see other baby's crib! So on to this Summer Infant Best View Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5" Screen.

The picture is not as good at night as the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 1.8" Screen - Silver. The picture on the Summer Infant Best View is definitely grainy. We probably have it on the higher end of what the instructions recommend for the length the camera should be mounted away from the target. Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out if my son is in his bed or if it is his stuffed animals and blankets...but eventually I can figure it out. And it is good enough for what we use it for. Just not as crisp as the Night and Day monitor.

What I like about this monitor and why I will probably keep this monitor is the pan function. My son is 2 yrs old and in a twin bed. He likes to get up and move around/play in his room. So the pan is VERY useful.

Turning the volume up/down is not a problem. It is like one extra button to push to get to it in the "menu" screen to change the volume. I know a lot of people comment on that.

Also- I have not noticed any flashing lights at all, as others have commented on.

There is NO interference (we have cordless phones, wifi, etc). With my Day and Night monitor by Summer Infant, there was a LOT of static and interference around my home. There has been NONE with the Best View monitor.

Range seems good too. We have a 3 story townhome and I can go 2 stories below where the camera is and it is perfectly fine. I have been outside too, with the Best View monitor, and again, no problems (except it is hard to see the video in daylight).

Overall, we are happy with this monitor and will most likely be keeping it, unless anything happens in the next month or so.
A great buy
This is a great video monitor. I love the zoom, pan and tilt options. yes, you need to adjust the volume in the menu, but you only hit the menu button once and that's the first thing that appears, so not that big of a deal.

The motor in the unit is silent, so it does not disturb baby.

I have an older Summer model in the house that gets a lot of interference, but this one comes through crystal clear, no matter where I am in my two-level house.

My only peeve is the auto-shut off of the video every few minutes. I have to keep hitting the button on top to wake up the video feed. This does not happen if the unit is plugged in. I know this is to conserve batteries but the choice should be left up to the user!
Worth the money
Great product. Mounts easily to wall. We placed it near the ceiling so when our son is a toddler we could monitor his play in the room. Good clarity at night with the "night vision" feature. Other reviews have noted the difficulty of adjusting the volume. It is not a problem. You literally press one button and then move the joy stick to adjust the volume. Furthermore, I find that I leave the volume on "3 bars" all the time anyway. The only thing that I needed to modify was the lights on it. When there is sound in the baby's room the light stip along the bottom of the picture light up from green to red to indicate level of noise. However if you are running an air conditioner in the baby's room then the monitor lights are always in the red. I put a piece of duct tape over it so at night when I'm trying to sleep there isn't a bright red light flashing! Otherwise this is a terrific monitor!
Great Buy!
We love this monitor. I researched a lot before I purchased this monitor and I am glad I did. This one definitely was a great price. Many were selling for 2 or 3 hundred dollars and had bad reviews. This one was only 150. I love that I can look at the monitor when I wake up in the middle of the night worrying about him. This way I don't go into the room like I was before and disturbing him. He doesn't notice it at all. We have wireless internet and all that fun stuff and I have never had interference. I believe this has been the best purchase we have made since our little has joined our family.
