a little interference, but overall worth it!I already had a summer video baby monitoring system and it was operating worse and worse. I purchased this one to replace it and have been very happy. We keep one camera in my baby's room and one in my 4 yr old's room. This unit only comes with one camera unless you purchase an additional one. There is only one spot in the house that I have found a popping interference sound on the monitor. We have a two story home with a finished basement and when my 9 month old naps on the 2nd floor I often am in the basement with my other two children. I just bring the portable monitor with me and it works wonderfully. I was impressed by the clarity of the monitor, even though it is much smaller than my old one. I even bring it outside if I am working in the yard while he is napping. Overall, a good buy for the money.
Good if you don't mind NO privacy...seeing other babies
I did my research before buying the Summer Infant Day and Night monitor. It seems like many people opt for this monitor and it got mostly good reviews so I figured I would try it out.
At first, I did like the monitor. The picture is very clear, even at night. And the range is pretty good, I could go outside and still get a pretty good signal for video/audio.
Right away, I noticed something very STRANGE: I occasionally saw a different crib!! I tried the other channel, but the other channel's signal was not as good. Seeing the other baby's crib happened when the reception for my channel wasn't as good. I live in a townhome, but I know for a fact that there are no babies in cribs in my building or in the building next to me. It might be a building across the street?!
At first I thought I could live with that since otherwise it was a good monitor, but as I thought about it, I became more uncomfortable with the idea. Someone may occasionally be able to see my son. This is not safe at all. I don't want some random stranger being able to see my son's room, his routine, what he looks like, etc. Plus, at night I go into my son's room in a shirt and underwear.
If you don't mind other people being able to peep into your house, then this is a good monitor, otherwise, opt for a digital monitor that is more secure. We will be returning this one asap.
good product but needs a mechanism to adjust
We love this monitor. The video quality is better than expected. The audio is very sensitive if you have the baby further away from the monitor. You can control the volume, which is great. Night vision is very good. Of course, you can't see exactly what the baby is doing, but I can see whether he has opened his eyes or is just wiggling in his sleep.
I have two complaints:
1. There is no way to know whether your baby is in the picture without having the mobile unit. Then, I worry about positive feedback and noise if I bring it into the room. Not to mention I forget most of the time. So, I always end up going up and down the stairs to adjust the tilt.
2. When you turn it first on, it goes into the video only mode. You can't hear even if the baby screams. I learned it the hard way. Make sure you turn the dial just a little past the on position.
I know some people mentioned that the security is bad, everyone with a base can see the picture. It is not a problem in my neighborhood where houses are far apart. I tried to take the monitor to the neighbor's house and it did not work there. If you are living in an apartment though, I would be wary. Countless times, I walked passed the transmitter not in appropriate clothing...
two thumps up
Can listen and visualize my baby clearly whenever he goes to bed.
Some statics here and there but manageable.
Boo
Boo- don't go with this unit. In my opinion, when you spend this much on a product, it should at least last as long as you need it to. Like while your children are little enough to want to monitor them. I thought I would be able to use this for my 2nd child, but no such luck. I have a stereo that lasted 30 years and this monitor's volume started to malfunction after only about a year.
If you call they tell you to blow air into the volume dial opening. ???? What? Because dust gets in there. How bizarre. Just as other reviewers mention, you can have a refurbished model for 80 bucks (no thank you.) The battery stops charging within no time at all, as well, so one would need to almost immediately replace the battery. I always charge it all day long and it still won't even allow me to listen with the video screen turned off for more than a few minutes. I also was never in love with the volume dial in general, being that you rotate UP to turn it down, and rotate DOWN to turn it up. I can get used to anything, but it doesn't make much sense.
I give this product a big "BOO" for the money. One year warranty? Really? Shouldn't it really last longer that ONE YEAR? The rep told me a lot of people have no problems with it... well that's nice for them but sucks for me!

Great for new baby!Great gift for our daughter and son-in-law to keep an eye on their new baby! Very clear image on receiver - they love it.
Handheld Color Video Monitor
I purchased the handheld color video monitor 2.5" screen by Summer for my daughter who just had a baby. She loves it, says she uses it all the time.
Really 4.5 stars...Great Product.....
I bought this for our baby and this is the one giftthat has given us peace of mind the most by being able to check in with our baby when we hear noises without having to go in the room. The sound is great, picture pretty damn good for a pitch dark room. We bought another for our daycare provider to watch our baby sleep and have bought one for every one of our friends that has a baby as this is the single best gift for new parents....I would only knock it half a star because the picture does deteriorate a bit over time, but just a tad over a long period nothing significant....and the only static you hear is when you are 50 yards away in the backyard working or something...
Defective
The monitor did not work for more than 1 week.
First the picture died out and then in a couple of days it stopped working altogether.
I'm not sure if it was just our bad luck, or this sort of malfunction happens frequently.
Always goes down hill
I will start off by saying that the only reason why this product got any stars from me is because they have phenomenal customer service. Unfortunately great customer service still can't make up for the fact that after 6 months of this monitor working amazingly it suddenly takes a turn for the worse and stays there. I have two camera's because I have two babies. The video only works for my son's room when plugged in (channel B). The audio always seems to die, it goes from crystal clear to pure static. Either the audio is too loud with static, or it doesn't work at all. I have to keep a back up audio monitor in both babies room. It's not my house either because we just moved and the same thing happened. I can't live without the video part because both my babies are loud sleepers so I need to see if they are up or just making noise. I am no longer under warranty so I can't bother customer service anymore.

ConfortI live in Brasiland we don'thave this kind of product here! It helps us a lot when the baby starts to cry and don't want to sleep we just wacht him to see if everything is fine! In my apartment it works just fine! i bought 2 of them, can't live without it anymore!
I'm lost without it!
This monitor was one of the best gifts I received. I've been using it for almost two years and will continue to use it for our toddler. It's easy to clip onto my pants and work around the house, the video is good, and the light display shows the level of sound in baby's room (from soft breathing to loud crying) even if the volume is turned down. I can walk out to our mailbox and still get a pretty good signal.
It really saves a lot of time from not having to go to our son's room and peek or listen in on him. I have gotten much good sleep with this monitor plugged in by my bed at night. If I wake up, I can just look at the lights or turn up the volume to check on my child. It also has two channels for selecting the best reception and, if we have another child, I will buy a second monitor to use a channel for each child's room.
I did have to replace the monitor once, because the connection from the outlet cord to the camera failed, but I haven't had trouble since then, and the convenience and peace of mind that this monitor has brought far outweighs that issue.

Better than not having oneThe good thing about this product is that it was easy for me to understand how it works and to get it up and running (I shy away from any technical equipment) The not so good thing is the reception is fuzzy on either the monitor or the handheld. This doesn't happen all the time, just when I walk near the monitor. The other not so good thing is that the picture is not always in color. I haven't figured that out yet. It could be a simple fix. But a great thing about this set is that it has an awesome microphone. I can hear every single gurgle, swallow and movement and this is priceless. This is my 1st purchase of an infant monitor set, so I don't have a basis to comparing. I hope this helps.
Makes mommy sleep better!
Great product!!! No problem with reception at all!!! I just wish the screen on the hand held monitor was a little bigger.
Whew, Peace of Mind!
I absolutely love this monitor!!!! We were very hesitant to move our 7 1/2 month old out of our bedroom and into his own room, but having the monitor made the transition so much easier. The nursery is on the opposite side of the house and I worried that the monitor would not work well--I was wrong! The signal is strong with interference only when someone stands directly in front of the monitor. I keep the 7" flat screen on my nightstand and the hand held unit is oh so handy too! The audio is so sensitive that I can even hear my baby breathing.
Frankly, I just don't know what we would have done without this monitor. It's worth the investment!
Expensive and Lackluster
We bought this to monitor our first baby. Here are our thoughts.
The handheld unit has an annoying "feature" whereby it saves battey power by turning the screen off seemingly every five minutes. If you want to do continuous handheld monitoring of your baby without being plugged into the wall outlet, this is not an effective unit. Pressing the button on top of the unit to get the video back is tiresome.
The "widescreen" larger monitor is nice and we keep it in our bedroom. Unfortunately, it is a stretched 4:3 picture made to look widescreen. Our baby's head looks enlongated when he is sleeping in his crib.
Another issue is the amount of interference to which the 900MHz band is susceptible.
The infrared is nice, as we can see our baby in the dark.
Finally, I was excited to learn that you could order an additional cable that allows you to plug in the handheld unit into your TV. Unfortunately, the company makes this cable difficult to obtain. Instead of offering it online, they require you to call them on the phone and give someone you don't know your credit card information. Purchasing on the web is safer than using your credit card in a restaurant or over the phone! I emailed them to find out where I could purchase this cable and they sent back an email telling me to call them on the phone. Why not just make it available online...or include it in the box? In 2010, you don't advertise a feature and make it impossible to get.
Good Product
Good Product, the image is good and can reach more than 100m in open air spaces.
The noise is not a problem at night, I recommend.
