Great so farI purchased this last month and have used it quite a bit. So far so good, I love it. I'm a novice sewer who has been taking some classes at a local store (renting one of their higher-end machines). I decided on the Brother CS-6000I after a lot of research. This was within my price range and gets excellent reviews. I did notice that when I set it on a hard surface I have some of the tension issues that people talk about, but if I set it on a softer surface (carpet) I have no issues with the tension at all. I have sewn through thin cotton and knits as well as multiple layers of heavy denim. As long as I switch to the appropriate needle....no issues! I also fixed the crotch-seam in a pair of my step-sons work pants that are a heavy twill. The crotch had so many layers I didn't think this machine would be able to do it. But I switched to a 90 needle and gave it a try....no problem! So far this machine has been a little trooper and I love that it only weighs 13ish pounds....easy to carry.
Wonderful machine
My sister in law had just purchased this machine when I came to visit .I was so impressed by it that when I returned home, I immediately went on line and purchased one for myself. I purchased this machine as a secondary sewing machine that would be lighter to carry back and forth to quilting classes and have all the great functions that I needed to have. It comes with very clear instructions to set up so that you can just sit down and sew immediately. At quilting class, I've even convinced others to purchase one. It is a great value for the money.

The CS6000I is all and more you can expect from a machine in this price range and it clearly demonstated it's versatility and ease of use.
outstanding machine
The Brother sewing machine I purchased is amazing. I haven't sewed in years, and wanted a good machine but not super expensive since both my hubby and I are retired. This was the perfect machine. So well made and fun to use. I originally purchased a singer about a month before waited for it, and when it came hubby and I lifted it out of the box and screws fell out,the side near the needle feel off. I was not happy. So when I got this one at a better price then the singer with more bells and whisles, I was a bit worried. But from the moment it came out to using it I have been charmed. DON'T MISS this item, grab it at this great price you won't be disappointed.
US voltage
Hi, would be beneficial if being posted outside the USA to tell customers about the differnt voltage, and the machine will not work unless a differnt electrical adapter is fitted.

Like it!I'm a beginner, so i wasn't too sure which sewing machine to buy. This one is great. I haven't had a single problem yet, and I've been sewing for over a month. Very easy to use. Easy instructions to follow if you are a beginner. Nice!
Awesome Machine
I bought the machine after going thru the manual worked out the kinks to get familiar what does what.
Im no sewing expert but a novice! The only problem I had was with the threading of the bobby cylinder pin.
The first time I had the wrong tension on the dial to the left zero thru 9. So when I loaded the bobby with like a number low number it wasnt a tight fit and bunch up and gave me an underside garment sew that didn look like a stitch. Plus the thread was coming off too fast and getting cuaght on the thread holder on top. So increase the tension to 9 and threaded another bobby pin and it fixed the problem!
Damm machineworks great for me! I do minor sewing like hemming pants ...
Great machine Love the bells and whistles! It takes patience at first to figure out what does what but a piece of cake after that!

This is a basic, yet competent little sewing machine. Sews through heavy material with surprising ease. Has just the right stitch functions and features to make it the perfect sewing machine for mending or small sewing projects.
Great machine!
I chose this machine specifically because it offers a serger-like, stretchable stitch that I wanted for altering jersey-knit t-shirts. And it has a ton of other stitches--more than I will probably ever need. I use the machine almost daily and it seems very durable and good quality for its reasonable price. I'm glad I went with this machine.
All plastic.....not like the older models
The machine seems to work ok but there is not a piece of metal on it. Even the slide plate is plastic. I will keep it but think I will have my older machine repaired just in case. They just don't make them like they used to.

No substitute for the real thing
Tried to use generic bobbins purchased at fabric store and they created a sewing nightmare. It pays to purchase the name brand in this case. Bobbins worked perfectly with no headaches.
Not quiet perfect
The bobbins arrived in a package without any item number. Therefore, unsure if they were the correct bobbins for my new Brother Sewing machine.
When ordering them form Amazon, could not find any statement as to which Brother machine they would fit. So I took a change - fortunately they did fit.
Order arrived in 4 days.

Great machine for the priceFirst I want to say this: this is a very beginner machine. If you want to learn to sew, this is great. It's very easy to understand. It's a good little machine. I had mine for almost 2 years before I upgraded to a janome and became a better sewist. I've had zero problems with mine. It's a bit noisy, and you need a mat under it, so it doesn't shake itself off the table. But other than that, i've had no complaints. Even though I have a great fancy new machine, I am keeping my cheapo little brother for a backup.
I love my little brother!
I bought this machine for myself on a whim in 2008 after seeing the great reviews. I have never been the "craftsy" type, and hated Home Ec in school. The machine sat in the box for 6 months until a friend who IS a craftsy woman showed me how to make my first pillowcase. I was hooked. The machine has been humming along ever since. For the hobbyist, this is a good investment. It's sturdy with enough stitches available to have fun with, and it lets you know when it's time for an oiling, as it starts to smell a bit like a vacuum cleaner belt going bad. It's easy to access the parts that need oil, and the instruction book has good illustrations for care. I have had to change a needle and untangle a mess from the bobbin and things went well. The only negative thing is that the thread does get wrapped around the wheel sometimes and you have to stop and re-thread the needle. When I am ready to upgrade, I will get a machine that threads the needle for me. For now though, I am totally satisfied with this machine, and would recommend it for anyone. Also, the instruction books came packaged with one in English and a separate one in Spanish, so it's easy to find what you need.
Easy and gets the job done!
I love this sewing machine because it's SO EASY. When it first arrived, I thought to myself, "Wow, this is going to be difficult to use..." but boy was I wrong. The instructions are very simple to follow and I had myself sewing within a half hour.
The different sewing types is a nice added option and it makes for a nicer finish. I haven't yet used the button-holer, but it seems to be pretty self explanatory.
So far I've created pillows, clothing, handbags (for my daughter) and a blanket.
I can't stress enough: this is SO easy!
Great Machine!!
Ordered my machine on friday and got it on Monday - Its just great! Moreover this machine is perfect for beginners - there are some sketches on the machine itself how to thread - the manuel has a lot of pictures as well and it is also quite informativ. So happy that I got that machine! Its also kinda handy and not that heavy. Have fun with that thing! I do!

Protection at its best
I have recently bought a sewing machine and I wanted to be able to take it with me when I go to my camper on the weekends, I was worried about transporting it all the time without protection so I ordered this case, it is hard plastic with a handle on top for easy carrying. The clips on the bottom are pretty reliable I have no doubt about the safety of my machine. The other benefit is there is extra room in the case around my machine for a small sewing kit, so I have everything I need in this one case. I would recommend this case to anyone who likes to take their machines with them or even if you have to store your machine in a closet or something like that, this case is sturdy enough to handle having things sat on top of it. After viewing many cases for sewing machines I feel this one offered the best protection and it was also the cheapest, I paid under $30 with S&H included.

As the other reviews have pointed out the case is big and bulky, but its sturdy and lightweight. I take it with me to sewing class a few times a week and have not had any issues with it. There is a lot of space left if you just have a standard sewing machine, but I use the space to store my sewing notions, this way I always have everything with me.
Nice Case!
The case is somewhat bulky but there isn't any way around that when you are trying to accomodate several types of machines. I ordered a Brother SE-400 machine and was looking for a case to put it in to protect it from the curious fingers of my toddler. I ordered this case thinking it was universal to all Brother machines, at least so that it would be safe. Then, I was just browsing though the reviews and saw all of the complaints about how big, bulky and ugly the case is and one where the dimensions were mentioned. My SE-400 is a bit larger than other portable machines because of the embroidery base. I confess, I didn't think to compare dimensions when I ordered it. I've spent the past few days wondering if I would need to return the case because the machine dimensions were larger than what the dimensions for the case are stated to be. When my machine and case both arrived today, the first thing I did was take my machine, all the accessories and try to put them into my case. Thankfully the 4x4 embroidery base is removable and the machine, accessories, embroidery base, foot pedal and manuals all fit in very well! I was very impressed. The case, admittedly, looks like a cat carrier but I might let my toddler loose with some markers for a 'one-of-a-kind' look, or I might decorate it myself. The case is largely a rectangle so will store in a corner, closet or nook fairly well, and can take some light weight on top of it without damaging structure. I'd have given this 5 stars if there were a way to secure the machine inside, so as not to shift while moving the case. However, some gorilla glue or super glue and a few dog collars (or other adjustable straps with clips or fasteners on the end) and you can customize the case any way that you want. I like the idea of being able to place the straps/machine where they work best for me. All in all, a great, basic cover. Good price, too. I think I will spruce the case up somewhat and add in those straps, but otherwise, I'm really happy with it!

Leona K. Hoppert, passed peacefully to her new human being on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009, at Pine Haven with her daughter at her side. Her physical heart simply could no longer put up with her earthly life. It is poignantly bittersweet but appropriate that on the day of Thanksgiving her family and friends could offer grateful thanksgiving in party of the gift of her life. She fully lived each of her 101 years 7 months and 3 days and met the challenges life presented to her lead on with a combination of creativity, optimism and philosophical pragmatism.
She most recently resided at 905 North 26th Street for 41 years before compelling to Pine Haven in August 2007.
Leona was born April 23, 1908, in Owatonna, Minnesota, to Rollen P. and Sophia Kilborn.
The kindred moved to Faribault, MN and then to St. Cloud, MN where she graduated from Technical High School in 1926. In December 1930 she received her BA in Family Economics from the University of Minnesota.
On November 29, 1947 she married Martin J. Hoppert at his home in the Town of Sheboygan with Rev. T. Parry Jones officiating. Martin, the county's first Agricultural Extent Agent, owned and operated Norwind Farm. With this marriage she acquired five step-children and four step-grandchildren whom she held as punitively as her own. In 1949, she and Martin were blessed with a daughter, Ann.
