The Only Baby Product I Feel Sentimental Over
My 16 mo old loves being in the Ergo and I love having him close by. The Ergo is engineered in such a way that you do not feel like you're carrying 25lbs. It's a great product and easy to put on. I love the front zippered pocket. I can stuff so many things in it that I don't need to carry a diaper bag.

I think with babywearing, the key is to start right away. My son only wants to be in the Ergo, he doesn't want to sit in a grocery cart or walk in a store. This can be good and kind of annoying, but at least I don't have to chase around a toddler while I'm trying to shop.

I love how when he's feeling shy he can bury his head into my chest and when he's feeling playful, he can touch my face. He also likes to chew on the hood straps, which keeps him occupied.

You can discretely breastfeed in it, but I found that more trouble than it was worth.
So far, not so great
I am still hopeful this will work well for my growing baby, but so far neither he nor I like it. My baby is 3 months old and he seems uncomfortable straddling my tummy. It also puts a lot of strain on my lower back where the strap rests. For now I am using by Baby Bjorn, and will try the Ergo when baby is older.
The Best Baby Carrier
My daughter and I love the Ergo Baby Carrier. We tried a sling and the moby wrap and both of those options are fine (and are more affordable), but the Ergo Baby Carrier is worth every cent. It's comfortable on the carrier's body, easy to put on, easy to adjust and is compact when not in use. Oh, and easy to toss into the washing machine and dryer! I always make sure we have our Ergo Baby Carrier with us wherever we go, because our daughter takes the best naps when she's carried in it. :)

I also highly recommend purchasing the ERGObaby Sucking Pads becuase they will come in handy!
Ergo vs. Beco vs. Bjorn...clearly Ergo wins!
I owned both Bjorn carrier active and Ergo and tried on a Beco. When my baby was young (newborn to 6 mo), I used Bjorn. It worked great and I loved how you can face baby forward.... until my baby got heavier, the straps started to hurt my shoulders. Maybe I have the Bjorn active, my back didn't really hurt like other people said. So, I was looking for an alternative and found Ergo and Beco. Went to a local store to try both on. Ergo's shoulder and waist paddings are much thicker (therefore much more comfortable), the hood is bigger to accommodate larger baby and it's always attached to the carrier for easy access. I use the hood all the time to provide shades under the sun and head support while my baby is napping. Also, Ergo has a front pocket that I don't need to bring my purse along anymore. Beco has a removable infant insert inside with two plastic buckles attached. Once the insert is removed, there are still these two plastic buckles inside the carrier. I can't imagine how comfy those can be for baby sitting inside. I definitely love my Ergo.
great!
My son and I both love this! He doesn't like to ride in a stroller so I would end up holding him on my hip and pushing the stroller with my free hand. The Ergo carrier has saved my aching arms!

Disappointing
I was really excited about this carrier, but it was uncomfortable for me and for my son. The shoulder straps were too bulky. It's not something you can quickly put on- so many straps and such. And my son (who is very squirmy) always seemed on the verge of flipping himself over.
Better options available.
I am underwhelmed by this carrier. I own wraps, slings, MTs and two other SSCs. Its easiest to compare apples to apples so I will try and keep the comparisons to my Angelpack and Beco.

We can start with the only plus this carrier has over the Angelpack and Beco. Its lightweight. Being its so lightweight it also feels less substantial. It also has a forward facing front carry that my other two SSCs did not have. However since I did not find this carry comfortable for me I don't find it to be a plus. Then there is the whole issue about whether its even safe for babies hips and spine and whatever it is "they" say.

I tried all the different carries; forward facing front carry, traditional front carry, back carry, and hip carry (w/ sling converter).

Forward facing front carry. This just didn't feel right to me, the weight distribution just felt off. I also felt like it just looked weird to have my baby legs dangling like that. I only used this hold for a few minutes but I would say it didn't feel like it would take too long for my back to start hurting.

Traditional front carry. With the carrier being so lightweight I was afraid the hold would feel flimsy or uncomfortable but it felt pretty darn good. I was able to tighten it up and carry her high and tight which is the most comfortable way to carry a baby. The shoulder pads are not as padded as the angelpack or beco but I felt like the padding was enough to keep from the straps from digging in and becoming uncomfortable.

Back carry. With my 20 lbs baby this is the most comfortable hold. I was able to get a pretty tight hold and the straps did not dig in under my arms.

Hip carry with sling converter. The sling converter was not as comfortable as I was hoping. It did spread the weight nicely but I felt like the edges of the sling fabric were cutting into my arm. I could loosen it up and it felt better but then the baby was not as tight which would be a problem if you wanted to use the carry longterm.

customer service was great. I ordered 2 carriers and both arrived busted in different ways. I emailed customer service and had the solutions mailed out and on my doorstep within a week.

I love my Beco. I am not feeling the same love for this carrier but it has potential to grow on me in these upcoming summer months. This carrier does fit me better then my Angelpack did which I felt was more suitable for a more petite figure. The Angelpack however is much cuter IMHO. Finally the instructions included with this carrier are awful, so you will be figuring out how to use it all on your own.
Not very durable.
I got this carrier instead of Babybjorn, which became very uncomfortable for a larger baby. At first I was very pleased. I love the fact that it has many different positions. My baby loves being face forward as he can then see what is going on. I also love the sleeping hood. My son does not like the stroller and walking with this carrier is great. It protects him from the sun and supports the head when he falls asleep. It is definitely much more ergonomic and comfortable than my sling or babybjorn. But it started to fall apart after a month of use. I have to stitch it together now. My 7 mo son is about 19 lb and 29 inches. So it should be fine, but the fabric breaks apart. I am saddened by this, as otherwise I like this carrier very much.

Awesome carrier!
I usually use ring slings and Moby wraps (all great), but wanted something for my husband and something sturdier than the slings. This has everything. Breath ability, the baby can face forward, comfortable, secure. It is really great. Someone mentioned that the baby nearly fell through and it is dangerous, I have really no idea how that could happen unless they didn't secure any of the straps. It is NOT an issue. The instructions are a little difficult, but once you get what they mean, it is a cinch. Also, you do not need the infant insert unless you want to do a cradle hold. An infant can face towards you without the need for the expensive insert. I learned this the hard way and had to send it back.
Great for hot climates and very comfortable for the wearer and baby
I'm a bit obsessed with baby carriers. I've tried so many of them - Bjorn, Bjorn Air, Hot slings, Maya Wrap, Ergo, Ergo Sport, Catbird Pikkolo, Cybex 2.go. So I can say I've had a lot of experience. I really loved our Bjorn, but as the summer heat came around and baby started to weigh alot more it just wasn't comfortable anymore. I tried out a lot of carriers until I got this one. My baby loves the front facing out position and I had a hard time finding anything that was comfortable for that. The Pikkolo felt like she was just facing the ground and pulling on my back. The Cybex was nice and is very well made, but it seems to hurt my hips. Plus it had a lot of fabric once you move to the full motion option. So that was hot.

This carrier though was just awesome. Its really soft and comfortable. We took a long walk on the beach and my back felt fantastic. The breathable fabric was so great. It kept both of us cool. Its my favorite carrier now.

It does have a bit of a learning curve figuring out how to use it because it has so many carrying options. If you've used a baby carrier before, you'll probably catch on really quick as at least one of the positions will be familiar. If this is your first carrier, you might need to practice a few times. But once you have it down, its easy. I found the back strap (the one that goes a across your shoulder blades) to be easier to secure than the Ergo. I found the padding in the shoulders to be very comfortable and I liked that I could move it around to where it fit me best. The pocket is very roomy and fit a tube of sunblock, my phone and keys.

Definitely a great find. We love it.

I would highly recommend this for the summer or if you live in a hot climate like us (Florida). The mesh is great!

worth the money
I was skeptical at first b/c my baby loves to face forward and thought she may not like it. I am glad I bought the ergo. the 1st time i put her in it, she fell asleep soo quickly. i am able to put away dishes/tidy up/go via mail while holding her. and when she get super fussy i am able to put her in it and walk around and she calms down. she loves looking around (she able to see from side to side, just not necessarily behind her). i started using the ergo when she was 3 mo and had to buy the insert. i thought if it was worth it to buy the insert for her to use only 2 mo. YES!!! totally worth it. we take it to the park, to the mall...when she was this little, it was hard to hold her while walking in the mall b/c she was so squirmy and i feel very secure walking around with her. She's 15 lb now and I am able to wear the ergo for 4 hrs at a time...super comfy!!!!

It works but it's very hot
I bought the Ergo baby carrier along with the Heart2Heart Infant Insert for my 3rd baby. He was born in March and I have used this carrier with the insert with him since he was 2 weeks old. It worked GREAT when he was that little. The insert kept him snuggled close and really supported him in the upright position. However, that was at the beginning of April, when it is still cooler weather outside (low 70's). In the mornings it was still cool enough to put him in the carrier and walk my oldest daughter to school. By the afternoon, though, it was way too hot (mid-to-upper 70's) to have him bundled inside the insert for any length of time. Now that it's July, I can't put him in the insert outside at all, it's just too hot. I live in Okinawa, Japan, but the humidity and heat here are very similar to that of Florida summers (I've lived there, too). Now that my son is 3 months old and has good head control I can take the base out of the insert and use just that in the carrier, to prop him higher so he's not sitting below the top of the carrier. But if he didn't have good head control I could not do this and the insert would've been a waste of money. So if your baby is due in spring or summer and you live in a hot/warm climate, I wouldn't bother with the infant insert. It will just make you and the baby way too hot. I do totally recommend the Ergo baby carrier, though. I wish I'd had it when my older two were babies!
I love it, the baby loves it!
I was a little skeptical after reading some reviews of the infant insert, but I decided to try it out anyway. I have used the Bjorn and various maya type slings, and this is by far the most comfortable carrier. I'm prone to plugged ducts and mastitis, and this carrier with the insert puts no pressure on my chest, so it's great in that regard.
I started using the infant insert when my newest was almost 3 weeks old. It was a little hard to figure out where her feet and legs go at first, and she was really uncomfortable when I tried to splay them out and have her feet poke out the sides. That's definitely not the way to do it with such a little baby. I found that the trick is to have her knees up following the line of the fabric just along the inside of the padding and her feet almost touching and down at the V shaped base. You may think they're getting squished but she doesn't complain at all so it must be comfortable for her.
I also couldn't figure out whether she was supposed to have her head resting on the top edge, kind of sitting away from my body or resting on my chest. She took care of that for me. When she's awake her head is up and she's peering around. When she gets tired she puts her head down on my chest and rests very comfortably.
The hotness factor was also something I read about. My daughter was born in mid June and we live in Maryland, where it's pretty hot and humid in the summer. Yes, the insert is hot. But so is the Bjorn, and so are slings. I just put her in a onesie and we're both a little damp on the chest when she comes out. No big deal, really. I think the pros outweigh the one con that it's hot.
So it does take a little fiddling to get it just right, but once you do it's super comfortable for you as the wearer, and a nice little nest for the baby to ride around in. I definitely recommend it!
Didn't really work for us
I ordered the heart to heart insert after trying to use the original infant insert with my Ergo carrier. My daughter LOVES to be held on my chest. She often falls asleep that way. I was having a hard time figuring out how to use the original infant insert and came across the heart to heart insert (I didn't realize there were two when I ordered the original). I had used the original insert a few times and she would just fall asleep in it, but I was never really sure if I had her positioned correctly. So I decided to get the heart to heart. I tried to use the heart to heart a few times, but she would just cry when I put her in it. I ended up going back to the original insert and sending back the heart to heart. Once she got a bit bigger (she was only 6 lbs when she was born), I found the original insert worked just fine. Also, I agree with a few other reviewers that the Ergo is really hot. My baby was born in April and we've tried using the Ergo but it has just been too hot. I also have a Baby Bjorn, which is not much better in hot weather. The one thing I REALLY like about the Bjorn is that she can face out. She loves being held facing out, so I got the Bjorn so I could actually get my hands back. It has worked great so far. I think the Bjorn is much easier to figure out.
to small for my son
My son is 2 months old and when I put him in the insert, he was too big for it so I just use the cushion to boost him up higher so that he is where I want him in the carrier.
this has given me back my life!!
My son is fairly fussy - but if I put him in the infant insert and walk around he stops crying. I'm not afraid to go out to the store anymore because I know that I can just put him in the insert and he'll calm down when we walk around. He often falls asleep in it. I also use it at home during the day so that I have my hands free - since he can't hold up his neck on his own yet. It was a little warm - but when we are at home I just leave him in his onesie and I wear a light cotton shirt. I haven't tried breast feeding with it - so can't comment on that. Great product for anyone that wants their hands free and has a fussy baby who wants to be held all the time. Also, ergobaby has a great website with videos on how to use the insert - this will make sure you position the baby correctly.

Easy on the back!
We transitioned from the baby bjorn to the ergobaby at around 6 months because the baby bjorn was killing our backs! The ergobaby is much easier on the back thanks to the hip belt but it is limited in not having baby able to face forward. At 6 months, he has a hard time seeing out over the top of the carrier (just his head sticks out) but he doesn't protest too much so it is okay for him, maybe not for all babies. The one draw back is that it is difficult to buckle the top strap in back without another person. We haven't attempted to put him on our backs yet as he is still too small but I think that will be great once he is bigger. Overall, I highly recommend!

Also, I debated on getting the sport vs. traditional but opted for the sport because we live in a hot climate. I am glad that we went with that option, the fabric is much lighter but my question to the makers is: "Why make the lighter-weight version that is supposedly better for hot climates in only one color option - BLACK???? HOT!!!"
Great carrier, but a sweaty baby!
This is a great carrier. I like how you can use it as a back or hip carrier. My husband and I like to hike and we took our 12 month old son out hiking with it and it was great; comfortable and our son seemed to like it fine for about an hour before he started getting fussy. The only con is that if your back sweats while you are wearing it, the baby will get drenched in sweat. Nothing a good bath won't fix, but be warned. I washed the carrier afterward too and it came through the washer and dryer just fine.
Fantastic but a bit warm
We love, love, love our Ergo! It is fantastic when the stroller just isn't an option of when I need to have my hands free. My son cuddles up and falls asleep almost instantly. It does get uncomfortably warm for both of us in the summer, but I'm not certain there's anything to be done about this. All in all, the Ergo is one of our very best and most useful baby purchases.
Frustrating
I have used this for months, so i can't give it one star. but compared to my wife's original ergo, this (the only carrier a fat dad like me can use) is very poorly designed. the aeration slit/flap is useless and annoying (it necessitates moving the supporting straps to a less useful position), the elastic hoodie straps are awful and very difficult to attach when needed, the back straps-and-clip are also hard to attach and annoyingly prone to getting stuck/tangled. the belt clip has a tendency to only engage halfway. the thick waist strap also gets twisted out of shape. it's also black, great for (theoretically) assuaging male insecurities, but actually heat-retaining in summer. useful, but could have been so, so much better.
It's great only if your baby likes it
I registered for this Ergo carrier after a friend of mine recommended it to me and I received it for my baby shower. I read so many great reviews for it and loved the fact that I could carry my baby in front, in back, and on the hip with it- as opposed to the Bjorn which I can only carry in the front. I knew that I could only carry the baby facing me when carried in the front position, but since I figured I'd be able to use it also when the baby's older and carry him on my back or on my hip, I decided to sacrifice that feature. I saw so many of my friends use it too and their babies seemed to really like being in it. I also ordered the infant insert to go with it.

My baby boy liked being in the Ergo with the infant insert the first couple of weeks I put him in it. It was easy to put on and felt comfortable. I like the Sport carrier because my husband could use it as well. When my baby was in it with the infant insert, it was like he was sitting in the insert and his legs would be in front of my stomach. It wasn't that big of a deal in the beginning until he got really big. I couldn't use the infant insert anymore, but he hated spreading his legs so that they would stick out of the sides of the carrier. I'd be able to get one leg out, but then the other leg would be hitting my stomach. He's not big enough yet to spread his legs out all the way out the sides. The Bjorn has holes for the legs to go straight down. I think my baby would probably be better in that right now.

My friends love the Ergo, and I love it too- but my baby's not a huge fan of it right now. I'm hoping that once he's bigger, he'll like it. I'm going to keep trying to use it, but unfortunately, he's at the ackward stage and isn't really comfortable in it.

UPDATE: My baby is 4 months old and 17.5 lbs and STILL does not like the Ergo because he doesn't like to spread his legs that far apart (and I'm very thin!) I haven't tried the hip position, but I will later on. I got the K'Tan carrier instead and my baby enjoys it and it doesn't hurt my back like the Bjorn. The Ergo's definitely the MOST comfortable though.
