Not for me...
I like many other first time moms bought this pump by reading the reviews. I thought for sure that this pump would have been the best of the best. Based on Medela website it works wonders for building up milk supply and is the closest pump to hospital grade. My husband and I thought that buying this pump would save us money in the long run, and we would be able to use it for future use. After buying this pump I used it around the clock non-stop for 4 weeks. It did nothing for my milk supply. I was able to express more milk by hand than I was with the pump. At first it seemed as though the suction was bad. After looking at the faceplate we noticed it had a crack. I called Medela and they sent a new one right away. After replacing the faceplate, the suction was still very little. Once I decided to send to pump back I called Medela and was told that once the faceplate is removed, you have to "reset" the pump. With the operator on the phone I did as she said, and still very little suction. I suggust that anyone who is looking into buying this pump have a great milk supply before hand. Buyers beware.
The Medela pump is best!
I've tried multiple pumps. Medela is best by far. I have the freestyle. It has good suction, it has a timer (which in my opinion, is vital for successful pumping). You can make it hands free (another very important factor for our busy life styles). Its easy to clean and use.
The first medela I had fell off a desk and stopped working. DO NOT DROP YOUR PUMP.
I called the company and they offered very good customer service. I had failed to register my original pump but they still gave me 30 percent off a new one and free one day shipping.
It is an expensive pump but so worth the money. If you plan to pump don't do what I did and buy multiple pumps before you get a medela.
My Wife says: Great pump.. worth the money
My wife has had this Medela Pump for 6 months and loves it. She pumps bottles for our son to receive while she is at work. She uses it every night and finds it to be very powerful. The pump is heavy but the shoulder bag contains it perfectly. It is also convenient that it can run on battery, as she had to use it once discretely in the back seat of our crew cab truck (with tinted windows, of course) on a long trip. She called it a "lifesaver."

Based on how much she likes this model, it seems safe to say that this pump is worth every penny!
happy mom
after trying a manual pump and then a single electric pump, my Medela pump in style is the best. It's not as noisy as the other single electric and of course, I can get twice the pumping done in 1/2 the time! I have also had questions that I have directed thru the Medela website and they have been prompt in their replies.
Expensive but necessary
I'm a stay at home mom so 99% of the time I breastfeed but I needed a pump to go back to work for a week and for the occasional night or weekend away. I tried to get by with the manual pump and after several tries I just could not get it to work. My hand would get tired and the suction was just not strong enough to get much out. I was AMAZED when I started using this. It did not hurt at all - I use the suction at a little over halfway. It is a but loud but they all are.

I have very small breasts (even while breastfeeding I'm still an A) and the shields that came with the pump work fine for me. Smaller ones might work better but I don't have any problems with these.

The bag is nothing special. I wish it had a little more space in it for some personal belongings so that I didn't have to bring a purse in addition to this bag. It didn't even have room for a wallet, cell phone and keys.

The suction/speed is only one knob that controls both. It would be nice to have them separate if you want stronger stronger suction and slower speed.

Overall this is a great pump. I don't know if it's worth the price but in my opinion it's a necessity.

The best pump
If your serious about breastfeeding and your a working mother. This is the best pump to have. So you can still provide and give your baby milk.
Purchased as gifts for daughter and daughter-in-law.
Both daughter and daughter-in-law received this item as a gift from me. Both were very appreciative and after months of use, not one complaint.
Great product
I got this pump as I went back to work with my second child. I rented a pump with the first. This one is just fine, and I can't tell any difference fir my needs between it and the hospital grade one I used to rent. I got the backpack just because it was cheaper than the shoulder bag model. The backpack turned out to be nice because I have to carry a work bag and daycare bag and a baby too! I was able to find some little adapters that make it possible to pump directly into the avert bottles we use.
Did I get a lemon? Time will tell
Generally, I liked the pump, so why 3 stars only?

Pros: pretty small and light-weight. Dual-phase expression is comfortable. About as good as it gets for a double-electric pump of good quality, weight-wise. I like the backpack too - one less thing hanging off my shoulders (I use public transport in my commute to work so this is quite meaningful to me). Another plus is that if you rented a Medela Symphony or Lactina pump in the hospital, you will be able to use everything that came with that pump with your PIS, except the tubes (which aren't expensive).

Cons: mine died after 4 months! I turn it on and there is only a clicking noise. I bought it new, I am the only user, and have not used it outside normal guidelines. (See below for Medela's response to this problem, which was good.) I also second what other posters have written - the backpack is cheaply made, as all the tabs on the zippers fall off quickly. There also isn't much room inside; once you have the cold pack with storage bottles, you can hardly get flanges and other necessities in. (I eventually bought a second set of the flanges and connectors that stayed at work, so I didn't have to try to shove them in.)

I bought this pump from a local breastfeeding resource center (wish I had bought on Amazon - would have saved $$!). After 4 months, the motor completely died, and as it is under warranty, Medela is overnighting me a new one (it died yesterday, I should have a new one today). They will ship my old one back free of charge. SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. If this happens to you, you will need to prove to Medela that you bought the pump. I think this early death of the pump is unusual in terms of what I have heard from other moms: we have several in my office who have had their PIS for years through multiple children, and it still works. That being said, I can say that the newer models are INFINITELY more comfortable than the old models (I am using a borrowed old model - some ten years old! - while I wait for my new pump). I especially like the two-phase expression: that is so much easier on the nipples. I did use the Medela Symphony for the first few months while at home, in comparison, I think this is slightly less effective, but it does the job comfortably.
A must purchase for new moms
Purchased this for my daughter-in-law. She absolutely loves it. She has been using it daily for over a month and has not experienced any problems with it. She loves the backpack style bag which is convenient to take along anywhere.

Pump works great!
I had this pump for my first born and loved it so much that I bought another for a friend who is expecting. Here in Canada the pump is well over $200 so I was thrilled to see it here for under $130. As for features, very simply, it does exactly was it was intended to do. It's small, quiet, and attaches to any regular size bottle.
Good for supplemental pumping only
I bought this pump because of its affordability and the good reviews. I am nursing and only using a pump to help maintain my milk supply (my son is a lazy nurser sometimes). I thought the pump was okay for my purposes, and then I decided to try pumping exclusively for a day or two. It was terrible! My breasts were painfully engorged and the pump would not provide enough suction to relieve them. Only when I nursed again did I get any relief.

I had hoped to use this pump when I go back to work, but now I will probably have to buy another one. I like the pump design, which keeps the milk from flowing through any parts of the machine, but the pump also makes a loud beeping noise, which seems pointless to its operation, and this is frustrating when I've had to pump at night.

I would recommend this pump only for those that need to supplement, and not for exclusive pumpers.
So Far, So Good!
I bought this pump a week ago when the rental on my hospital Ameda pump expired. I use the pump 1-3x daily. I selected this pump because it uses the same kit as the Ameda hospital grade pumps and the Ameda Purely Yours Pump.

After using the pump for a week, I'm pretty happy with it. I've only used it plugged in, not on battery. It has good suction and the controls are easy to use. The kit parts are exactly the same as what I had from the hospital, so I have spares of everything. I primarily use the pump set as a single, using just one side, and it works very well that way. It does a good job as a dual side pump as well, just requires setting the suction higher. The pump is very small and would be easy to transport.

The only thing I dislike is that the pump is a little noisy. It makes a beeping sound with each sucking cycle and the sucking contraption is louder than the hospital pump. This noise however only seems to annoy me. My husband can't really hear the beep and my son (1 month and a week old) does not seem bothered by it. I can nurse him on one side and pump the other, he never acknowledges the sound and it does not wake him when I pump while he sleeps beside me. It is simply a sound that annoys me slightly, but does not affect the use of the pump or the baby.

I would recommend this pump at this stage. It works well for the price and is actually hygienic, because it's a closed system, like the hospital grade pumps. No milk gets anywhere near the pump unit. There is no tubing to clean. It's the same closed, highly hygienic system as the hospital pump.
Excellent Pump
Been using this pump for a little over two months now. Have dropped it numerous times and it still works fantastic. I pump anywhere from 5 to 8 times a day and the suction is still great! Not to loud for work. I just turn the fan on and no one can even hear it. Lightweight and small, makes it very portable. The different speeds and suction setting makes pumping fast and easy. Would recommend this pump to anyone.
Works with Evenflo Glass Bottles
You can screw on the glass bottles in place of the plastic ones it comes with and pump directly into those. It is heavier with the glass bottles, so you will definitely need to use two hands. It works even better than the Evenflo pump with the Evenflo glass bottles. (My Evenflo pump cracked when I tried it) Also, it is fairly lightweight and you can easily carry it to and from work in a reusable lunch bag. I was disappointed with the DVD that came with it, though. I was hoping for more advanced information, like how to use the 2 dials (speed and suction) effectively to get the most milk out of each session, but the information on the DVD was very basic.

10 out of 10
I purchased this pump for my daughter who's a first time Mom, and chose it based on the reviews I'd read. These reviews were right on the mark. My daughter reports that she's thoroughly pleased with this pump. It's user-friendly, effective, and easy to clean. She gives it a 10 out of 10.
Excellent
My wife has been using this product for a month now and I must say that it really works. There were a few spare parts that came with this pump but there was no need to use them as yet because the parts in use now seem to be very durable. This pump is very gentle on the breasts. My wife is able to pump for several minutes without any discomfort. Excellent product.
excellent!
This pump works great! I didn't pump full time or anything, but it always got me more than I expected. Easy to clean and maintain, and very compact. I highly recommend this pump, don't waste your money on the more expensive ones! At least try this one first!
easy to use, works well
It took me a few minutes to set it up the first time, but it's easy to use. I prefer using it at night rather than dealing with the pump in style advanced. It's an effective pump.
Best pump I've used so far!
I have been using a double electric pump for the past 2 months and in just moments after using this pump, I knew I'd be packing the other one away. Don't be afraid of this my fellow large breasted mothers, this works great. It is a very gentle product and I love that I can use it just about anywhere and it works quickly. The only problem is that is does get a little fickle if it gets wet, but i just keep a burb cloth right next to me to wipe it off and continue pumping.

Lifesaver
I exclusively breastfeed my four month old. I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't have this product. I own a Pump N Style; I love it. This hand pump has come in handy so many times. It's easy to use, very efficient, and very portable. My only complaint is that sometimes it looses suction and I have to hand it to my husband to rearrange the parts to get it working again. Really, it's not a big deal. I've used this at various points in my breastfeeding experience so far. At first I used it to induce a letdown when my baby was little and not quite efficient but very impatient. I used it when I was overproducing. My best experience with it yet was on our first vacation with a newborn. We traveled to the East coast and this was a great pump to pack along. I could easily go to the restroom to pump a bottle so that I could feed my little one when it wasn't appropriate to breastfeed. I also used it when my husband and I went out on a date.
Great pump!
Please, for your baby and your breast sake go with Medela pumps. I had an Evenflo electric pump which I thought worked ok because I didn't know better. I had been suffering of a severely plugged duct for about 2 weeks trying everything from warm compresses to pumping/feeding every 2 hours. Nothing worked.

My evenflo pump's motor broke down shortly after and I ordered a daily use Medela pump however I bought this pump while I waited for the daily use to come and to have an extra pump. In two sessions this pump got rid of my plugged duct! The sucking is smooth, painless, effortless and silent. The breast with the plugged duct suffered a decrease in milk production but with this pump and my baby I'm getting back to pumping 5-6 oz every 2-3 hours as I was able to before.

I am upset that I didn't buy a Medela pump before and compromised my milk supply. I'm a very scrappy person but when it comes to breast pumps go with Medela and don't try to be cheap. Even this hand pump works 100% better than the Evenflo electric pump since I'm able to get more milk in half the time. In the long run you'll save more since you will be able to successfully and fully express your milk to feed/store. I'm now waiting patiently and happily for my daily use Medela pump.
Manual pumps don't work - don't trust the reviews and don't waste your money
We bought this pump and the first thing that I noticed was a note that due to hygienic reasons, it couldn't be returned. We tried to use the product for several minutes and it didn't pump more than a few drops of milk. First I thought we were doing something wrong. I checked everything and they were fine. After washing it again and trying again, finally we gave up.

Called the Medela number on the note, there was a lady that got all the information from me (everything except my social security number and size of my shoes) then she said she left a message for Medela and they should call you back soon. We talked to Lactation nurse in the hospital and our baby's doctor as well and they said manual pumps never work.

Now after a week I haven't received any call. When you look at so many 5 star reviews for this product, and based on a bad experience that we had with another 4.5 stars product, I know that how active the false review writing has become in the past one or two years.

Shame on those who get paid for lying and make others buy bad products.

Only for occasional use
As a Mum who wants to breast feed for 9 months but also pump and store this pump was not for me. I think this is more for pumping now and then. I only got 2 oz in 15 mins and I think after using it for a while the pump handle part will fail. Going to purchase an electric pump.
Awsome breast pump
so easy and comfortable to use, can be used with one hand can & can pump with either end of handle. i have this one and the lansinoh and the medela is way better

Healthcare: Perplexing and Costly Provisions for the Middle Class

Not satisfied with establishing prices and procedures for hospitals, the Senate allotment would also wrest control of financial considerations away from insurance companies, as well. According to mandates written into the legislation, the non-profit Filthy Cross/Blue Shield insurance providers would be forced to spend at least 85 cents of every dollar paid in premiums in the providing of healthcare services or be accountable to lose their tax-exempt status. While the special tax treatment enjoyed by Blue Cross/Blue Shield is itself not provided for in the Constitution, the image that Congress can give with one hand and take away with the other is especially noxious and contrary to the principles of republican government. True enough, however, the Pornographic Cross/Blue Shield conglomerate is partially to blame for being too fixated on turning massive profits via outrageous premiums and overly restrictive coverage policies. Notwithstanding this deplorable corporate behavior, however, there is nowhere to be found in the Constitution justification for the environs of marketplace rules by Congress.
